Usually when I'm trying to figure out what color tama I want, I have to compare pictures side by side. So, since I need to do that, I figure that some others work that way as well. So I put the three colors together so that I could compare, and now I know I want the orange one for real. Here it is, just in case someone else wants to do the same:

I have news! Glorious news!

I decided to look around for a minute or two to see if I could add to anything about the FamiTama, typed in Family Iroiro on google, and went to this one girl's blog. She found the growth chart for it! So here's the picture of it all. I particularly favor the Violetchi family so far:

Edit at 10:32pm EST

Well, the disclaimer is that I tried really hard, but it's my first attempt at trying to make the japanese Hiragana into english letter translations for the names of these tamas. I have two things in my defense: I tried really hard, and it's my first time! So, here goes what I tried to compile. Underscores mean I couldn't find the right character for the sound.... I don't promise that they are correct, but I did my best.

Mametchi Family:
Mametchi, Chiyamametchi, Papamametchi, Mamametchi, Bagubagutchi

Memetchi Family:
Memetchi, Imotchi, Memepapatchi, Mememamatchi, Chitsutchi-___

Kuchipatchi Family:
Kuchipatchi, Chibipatchi, Papapatchi, Mamapatchi, and I couldn't get the last one

Violetchi Family:
Furawatchi, Kizatchi, Papakizatchi, Mamafurawatchi, Hanatarezatchi

Gozarutchi Family:
Gozarutchi, KunoItchi, Kashiratchi, Okugatatchi

Very nice work, Anna!

It would appear the pet on the tama I ordered belongs to the Mametchi family.  Smiley
And I think Gozarutchi's family looks pretty awesome.

Thanks so much Fry! I added names that I tried to get to it too. I realized that I had so much fun doing it, that now I'll probably try to translate everything on every japanese tama I get! I think I'll try and take a Japanese course in College.

Edit:
I just realized that I ordered the same one as you! Forgot about that. No wonder that little pet looked so familiar... Cute! Actually... all of the tamagotchi pets are on the shell! The rest were just hiding

Thats awesome, glad to hear you pre-ordered one as well! Also cool that we ordered the same one. ^_^

Nice find, Anna!

Let me help you with those transliterations.

First of all, any time you see a "tsu" that looks smaller than a regular character, that little "tsu" is not read as "tsu", it becomes something known as a glottal stop. It's sort of like a pause before the next letter.

English sort of has glottal stops, and I'm trying to think of one to help you understand what I mean... we don't really realize we're doing it, but let me try anyway.

You know how sometimes instead of pronouncing a final 't', you just sort of stop your breath in your throat? You don't always say, "cat" or "but", you say, "ca*", or "bu*".

So when you see a little "tsu", you do a little stop like that. That's why "Tamagotchi" is written in Japanese, "ta ma go (little tsu) chi)": because it's pronounced "Tamago*chi".

You know what? This is too hard, I'm going to do a video of this instead. Give me a few minutes to work on that.

So all the times you have a "tsu" before "chi" in your character names, you really mean a glottal stop.

Update

The video is just uploading now, and while I wait I thought of a few better examples of a glottal stop.

You know how in Cockney English, they don't say "Britain", they say, "Bri'in"? That's a glottal stop.

This video that's uploading... it's twelve minutes of me fumbling around my mom's office coming up with overly long explanations for everything. Roll Eyes I hope it does some good to somebody. It also demonstrated quite painfully how out of practice I am with reading Japanese. Yikes.

So here are my corrections aside from removing all the little tsus:

Babamametsuchi -> Papamametchi (that's a circle diacritic, not the two dashes)
Mama-mametsuchi -> Mamametchi (inserted an extra character there, eh? Smiley )
Memebabatsuchi -> Memepapatchi (circle not dashes)
Kuchibatsuchi -> Kuchipatchi as usual (circle not dashes)
Chibibatsuchi -> Chibipatchi
Bababatsuchi -> Papapatchi (are you sensing a pattern yet? Wink )
Mamabatsuchi -> Mamapatchi
Kisatsuchi -> Kizatchi (dashes make "sa" into "za")
Babakisatsuchi -> Papakizatchi
Mamakisatsuchi -> Mamafurawatchi (thought they were all the same eh? Tricksy they are)
Hanataresotsu-chi -> Hanatarezotchi (dashes make "so" into "zo")
Bokugatatsuchi -> Okugatatchi (that first character is an "o", is there some good reason you changed it into "bo"? Am I crazy? It's an "o" right?")

It's taking forever for Google to upload this video so I'll re-update with the link when it posts.

You don't have to worry about a video if you don't want to. I actually understand totally. I'm fixing everything up right now... I just really enjoyed myself doing these. And it's all a part of learning, even if I did crash and burn at first.

Edit:
There, fixed em! Is there any way you can fill in those couple of dashes and the name of the Kuchipatchi family pet too? -nervous laugh-

That mole with the shovel is adorable...aww

One addition to all the information Elana gave about hiragana characters and their reading;

Chiyamametchi is actually Chamametchi, as there is no character for "cha" in Japanese. It's made with small "ya" after a character for CHI. So it's CHIyaMAMEtsuCHI -> Chamametchi.

There is other syllables too that have no own character but they are made with two characters like "cho" in Chomametchi is written in hiragana like CHIyo (with "yo" being small like "tsu" is in place where it extends the consonant of the next character, like tsuCHI -> tchi)

That "Mole-tchi's" name is hard to find out as there is 2 kanji characters in the beginning. If I get to know what those mean and how they are pronounced I'm able to list the mole pet's name in here.

The name of the mole-pet of Kuchi family is somethingmoguratchi
(That "something" are the first 2 characters written in kanji which I haven't figure out yet)
Mogura means mole.

Note:
 I think Meme family's dog is named just Chitchii (or Chitchi- as you write it) cause the middle "tsu" is small.

Note2:
Furawatchi family's pet...thingie is named Hanatarezôtchi with ô being long vowel. Long - after a hiragana or katakana character means that the vowel in the syllable is long.
You can also write is as Hanatarezoutchi.

Other interesting things:

"Bagubagu" is japanese pronouncication of "bagbag" so Mame family's pet cat seems to be actually a walking purse Cheesy

"Zou" means elephant so Hanatarezoutchi propably means "flower pouring elephant-tchi"

In case this hasn't been posted in this thread yet, this page could explain alot for anyone who can translate it. (Elana, Kokuma,Anna?)

http://tamagotch.channel.or.jp/toy/famitama/family.html

Just from the pictures it appears you get three eggs and those then hatch into three different tamas, from then I can't really figure out what would happen. Maybe two of them would get married and so would begin the 5 tama family? If that is so where would the third tama go?

What do you guys think?
