I Googled this to try to figure out what you're talking about. Here's the website of the virtual pet (not to be mistaken for the weird gimmick of the same name that is like a portable hook to hang your purse off restaurant tables or something like that).

It's kind of interesting, it's a cross between a virtual pet and a traditional plastic figurine to play with. I assume there is some magnetic or electronic chip in the base of the plastic figurine, and you place it at different spots on the play surface to trigger different responses from the LCD screen.

The coolest feature of this pet, I think, is the multiplayer connectivity. If your friend puts their plastic figurine on your play surface, the unit will enter "party mode" and presumably some new messages appear on the LCD screen.

The screen is very small. It looks like a long, narrow ticker rather than a screen. So there is no pixelated image of a virtual pet I don't think, just the plastic figurine, and the screen serves to communicate its needs. This means that the character never grows up, because the plastic figurine will obviously stay the same forever.

I see some similarities with the Neopets Pocket Pets, in that there are games to play, and the character never changes. The Neopets Pocket Pets also had little plastic figurines to move around a play area, but there was no magnetic or electronic interaction, they were just little plastic dudes on pegs that you could play with or use to push buttons or something.

I would love to hear a review if someone decides to buy this.

I have heard of these.
I thought the commercial made them seem incredibly lame, but I also thought that of the Tamagotchi Connection commercials. =/

They made me think of a really cheap Neopets Pocket Pet, too.
The screen looks really...bad. From what I could tell the on the commercial, the resolution is very small, pixels are really big.

I can't see a way for a plastic figure to die, so they're probably immortal.

I don't know.
If I find them in a discount bin, I'll probably take one.

I found those illustrated (head) logos of Purse Pals being bit misleading.

In the logos Callie looks like a dog, Cheeks looks like a monkey, Gumdrop perhaps alien(?) and Poppy looks like a sheep Tongue

(Callie is cat, Cheeks is hamster, Gumdrop is...er...tortoise ((info text tells about swimming but Gumdrop has tortoise legs Grin)) and Poppy is a puppy. Haha.)

I went to TRU the other day looking for tamagotchi... and in the same aisle, quite ironically I sawwww this!

So I took a picture of the one that I would want if I decide to get one. It's a cute looking ensemble, but my room is getting too crowded with my tamas and my furbies (more than likely more to come of those, and a poochi maybe!! )

I like the horsey. These were in the girls' aisle too.

Sorry to revive the topic. However, I must warn you all! Purse Pals are (no offense to anyone who likes them!) really really simple and kinda.. dumb. My little sister got one. The plastic figures are cute. But they are small, and get lost, making the toy completely impossible to play with. When you still have the figure, you can feed and play with it. As far as I can tell, there is no instruction manual, and it is not as easy to figure out as tamagotchi are. All in all, I do not believe these are worth your money, unless of course you're willing to pay that much for the cute little figures. Heh, small joke. ^_^

I can personally say that this praticular "pet" was a let down. By the sounds of the commercial and the back of the package makes you think it's somewhat sophisticated, but in all honesty there's nothing 'vpet' about it. It's kind of like the Littlest Pet Shop pets where you can 'feed' and 'groom' the pet, but that's about it. The game awards you hearts, but there isn't any growth of the actual pet and it's pretty much a pick it up and play with it for 5 minutes and totally forget it's there afterward and it doesn't even run away. Heck, I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to the depleation of the hearts...

I'd write a more elaborate review...but I ended up giving my pet to my stepdaughter, and even she didn't find it very amusing. At least it wasn't much of a loss, as I found the toy in the bargain bin....
