I Googled this to try to figure out what you're talking about.
Here's the website of the virtual pet (not to be mistaken for the weird gimmick of the same name that is like a portable hook to hang your purse off restaurant tables or something like that).
It's kind of interesting, it's a cross between a virtual pet and a traditional plastic figurine to play with. I assume there is some magnetic or electronic chip in the base of the plastic figurine, and you place it at different spots on the play surface to trigger different responses from the LCD screen.
The coolest feature of this pet, I think, is the multiplayer connectivity. If your friend puts their plastic figurine on your play surface, the unit will enter "party mode" and presumably some new messages appear on the LCD screen.
The screen is very small. It looks like a long, narrow ticker rather than a screen. So there is no pixelated image of a virtual pet I don't think, just the plastic figurine, and the screen serves to communicate its needs. This means that the character never grows up, because the plastic figurine will obviously stay the same forever.
I see some similarities with the Neopets Pocket Pets, in that there are games to play, and the character never changes. The Neopets Pocket Pets also had little plastic figurines to move around a play area, but there was no magnetic or electronic interaction, they were just little plastic dudes on pegs that you could play with or use to push buttons or something.
I would love to hear a review if someone decides to buy this.
