I never had a Tamagotchi from the 1990s. I got into Tamagotchi with the 2004 release of Tamagotchi Connection. Now... I can at least say I've played the classic.

My father went to check the mail. I didn't expect it to come, thinking 'don't get your hopes up, it's coming from the /US/.'

My father re-enters.

"The tama came!"

We tore into the package together, and there, wrapped in bubble wrap, the see-through, green-with-yellow-buttons Tamagotchi P1. Squeeeee!

I didn't think the box was so small! It's no bigger than a VHS case. I thought it'd be much larger. I also didn't know that the original was so small. The Connections are larger! I thought they'd be the same. My new precious is so tiny and light, it feels so delicate.

Pulling the tab almost worried me. It takes a few milliseconds longer than the Connections, I thought it wasn't working. then, I had to figure out the time setting system, very different from what I have become accustomed to. Such is the case with the icon layout ('you have to go /that far/ to check it's hunger?!') but I have played emulators so I was expecting this.

I promise to take the best care I can of my new Tamagotchi, and to raise many a Mametchi.

Happy birthday, my P1!

Aw congrats!

I felt the same way too with starting my P2 Tama, I had forgotten how small and wonderful they were. It did feel special to pull that tab and hatch the first little newborn on it.

Hope many good times are had with your new addition! =)

Congratulations on hatching your first original 90's Tamagotchi! Cheesy They are awesome aren't they?

My first Tama was an original Tamagotchi US P2. I know the feeling of hatching it for the first time. After that I bought several P1s and P2s, they are my favorite.

Good luck in raising your Tama! Be sure to try for a Ginjirotchi at somepoint (he is second best next to Mametchi). Wink

Congratulations! I love all my 90's tamas more than the newer ones, for sure. I think they were more about just taking care of your tama and getting close to it, instead of working for points and getting a job and all that complex stuff I'm not such a fan of. The game was nice and simple, "Guess where?" and I loved playing it.

Hope you have a great time! What did you decide to name it?

Thank you. =3

I'm with you, Acidiica. I like taking care of the pet much more than collecting points or website interactivity (although those are sometimes nice things when they don't interrupt the caretaking).

It's a little strange, because on the Connections, Babitchi are seen as male, but I'm just going to pretend that never happened as I've named my little baby Melissa, after the wonderful person who sold it to us! (www.tamenagerie.com)

Is this a misprint, or did they just mess up the sprites on the back of the box? Ginjirotchi looks like a frog and Mametchi looks like he's staring at something, disappointed.

No, I don't think they messed up the sprites or anything. You can check out the different adults you can get by checking out Kat's page right here:
http://www.mimitchi.com/html/tamatip.htm

I actually love Mametchi and Ginjirotchi. Maybe the cartoon versions of them are on the box? I forgot what the back of the box actually looks like... ^_^'

And back in the day I don't think they were set boys and girls on the tamas. You can choose your own gender (excluding the osutchi/mesutchi that are always a boy on the osu and girl on the mesu) . I think it only started in the 21st century that the tama chose the gender itself

I know, but there on the Mimitchi page the proper sprites are there.

This, scanned from the back of the package, doesn't look right.

Yeah, I must admit they look a little weird there. It's probably the resizing that messed it up and screwed up the proportions of the lines and such.  Huh
