I can't get the tama open!
«

I have this problem with a lot of my old '96 and '97 tamas, and this is the reason my ocean no longer works
When I try to unscrew the little screws, usually one will come out and one will not budge for anything. So I end up trying to break it open. It happened once with my Osu, which I cannot for the life of me remember if it works or not. The screw on the left is completely stripped and I need to replace that one for sure, but I dont know where to go for that either:
Eww dirty nail
hehe.
Yeah, so is there any place I can go to that can possibly unscrew the little things and not strip the screws themselves? Or are there any tricks to getting them unscrewed easily? I'm very upset about them.... Thanks!

I only had this problem on one occasion, and that was because I used the wrong size screw driver and stripped one of the screws on my Japanese P1. I ended up having to bore a hole around the stripped screw, which I didn't want to do, but it was the only way to change the batteries.. Below you can see a pic I took of it a long time back. The spot that's circled in red is where I had to bore a hole in the back of the Tama.
Before doing that procedure, I brought it to a watch store (where they have lots of different screw drivers and tools). They tried to get the back opened for me, but there was nothing they could do. In some cases I'm sure that option would work, but it didn't for me. Maybe you could try bringing it to a place like that, they might be able to help you.

Thank you Ginj. I'll definitely take them to the watch store around me, if I can find out where one is =p
Yeah, I did the same thing with my osu as you saw above. I felt bad breaking it like that. But it turned out for me that it ended up messing it up internally
in the case of my ocean.
I've found that with the tamas that have loose screws, they open fairly well with eyeglass screwdrivers. they dont have the four different corners to them, but they fit the size.

I'm glad I could help! Sorry to hear about you're Ocean.. That's the one thing I worried most when doing the procedure I did on my Japanese P1, was messing up the Tama internally. Is there any way of fixing you're Ocean?
It's to bad really that Bandai had to make the screws so tight. Whenever I take the screws out of my 97' Tamas, I make sure not to put them back in to tight, just so it will be easy to get them out when I change the batteries next time.
Good luck with your Osu!

From what I can tell, the ocean is done for. I've tried to give it time to rest and everything, and still. As soon as it gets attacked the fiirst time, its done every time. The question mark stays there and it doesnt stop beeping, and it really stinks. I was very upset.

Thank god for lenscrafters! I went there and they loosened the screws no problem. I recommend any lenscrafters or eyeglasses store for anyone who needs help with screws that have been stuck. I almost felt like a weak person when she came back within 30 seconds with my tama.

That's the problem I've had with one of my P1s for a while now,one screw will come out no problem but the other seems stripped.I'll try that! Also,I figured out how to make the screen work all the way on that P1,I just need to open it up...there's nothing to loose,I can't play with it anyway until I fix it.

I've stripped a few in my time, and one of my Mesus has a stripped screw. I'll have to try that.

The back of my P2 had 1 stripped screw and I had to replace the batteries, and somehow my dad got the screw out, completely stripping the hole. But we can get the back open now, and the other screw is fine for holding down the batteries, so no worries!
