Tonight I was looking up guitar hero for the fun of it and found an interesting site, run by redoctane (the creators of guitar hero).

When I looked through the image gallery just to check out the pictures people were posting, I clicked on a picture of an eyeball and a virus called PHP.RSTBackdoor tried to install itself. Luckily norton caught it and removed it.

I know I've talked about Guitar Hero a bit lately and I love the game and all. And if anyone is thinking of researching it I urge you to avoid this site: beaguitarhero.com

I have written to RedOctane about this and I hope, with the recent release and popularity of their product, that they will take action to avoid these kinds of uploads on their gallery site.


I just wanted to warn anyone who was thinking of researching it online.

I really should look into renewing my anti-virus set- up.

Yeah i know whatcha mean. I feel lucky that this computer is the one I've kept updated, my other computer hasn't been updated in a while.

That is really scary you know.. never even knew it was possible to put a virus executable in a gallery link like that, and on an official site! I'm so careful when I browse the web, I was quite surprised.

I've heard of this game before. It sounds interesting. Hopefully they get that virus thing dealt with.

I heard the game is like DDR, but the difference is you play the guitar for points? Am I right at all or was I misinformed?

Thanks for letting us know, I've never been to that site, but it's still good to know.
I'm pretty sure my virus programs are up to date, but It wouldn't hurt to check.

I guess you can say it's like DDR, with the accuracy and timing and whatnot to music.

Just... not as exhausting.

It has a very similar setup in how the game works, but you have a controller that is guitar shaped that simulates a guitar using buttons instead of strings. There are 4 levels of difficulty and you try to make it through songs, which start out easy but as you progress get more complicated. Beating levels gets you special things like money to buy special guitars and characters, videos, etc. You can play with a partner, with or against in competition. I never got into DDR so I am not sure if it is the same, but I know the layout is similar.

It's hard to sum up really. My description is terrible. There are several videos on Google Video that show players playing it and how it works in general, which is way better then my description. It is unlike any game I have ever played and enjoyed

ACK!!

Just my luck my computer has been infected, namely my Internet Explorer. Wasn't from the Guitar Hero site... but nevertheless this SUCKS. I'm always so careful too, and quite baffled as I usually only visit my normal websites, never stray too far.

So my poor computer is in surgery... I'm on the library computers at the moment (free IT help!).

Sigh.  Hope it'll be alright.

P.S I REALLY need to update my protection program now.

*Update*

Okay, computer safe and sound back home. IE is completely run-down, they installed Firefox for me and a new anti-virus set-up. Hope things stay okay!

Oh no.. that's terrible. Do you happen to know where/how you got it?

Not sure where I got it... it's strange.. left my computer fine on standby, came back a few hours later with IE completely buggered.

It seems to be working okay now, *phew*. Jen suffered a great heart attack thinking the worst.
