Who do you think is basically the Tamagotchi 'mascot'?
When you think of tamagotchi, who is the first character to pop into your mind?
Who do you think Bandai uses to advertise Tamagotchi products the most?
Who do you think other people who don't know that much about tamagotchi think of if they are ever asked to name a character?

If you go to tamagotchi.com, or tamatown.com, Mametchi, Kuchipatchi, and Memetchi probably show up more then any other character.
Mametchi is the character on the sticker that is placed on the front of the majority of tamagotchis.

Combine all of the above and who do you think is the most popular, leading figure, in the tamagotchi world?

When I think of tamagotchi the character I relate to it the most is probably Mimitchi, but I think Mametchi is probably the most well known and is bascially Tamgotchi's mascot.

What do you think?

In the past I can imagine the Kuchipatchi being the most known, as I've heard many people refer to raising a Tamagotchi as raising "their virtual chicken", as well as being the sticker on the screen on the first packaging.

Nowadays, Bandai seems to like using their new design of the Mametchi (the yellow bug-eyed design), as well as the Mimitchi and Kuchipatchi to advertise. The Mametchi appears as the screen sticker, but for the V1&2 it was the old design and V3 (and I'd assume V4?) it had the bugeyed thing, so people might not know the difference.

Seeing as the Kuchipatchi shows up in both these lists, I'd say Kuchipatchi, but with the new versions having so many characters none of them are really iconic.

I really think that Mimitchi is the Tamagotchi 'mascot'. You see so much of him on the boxes of Japanese Tamas, especially in the original 96' Japanese Tamas, and advertisement. Mimitchi is my all time favorite character and I love Ginjirotchi just as much. Mimitchi and Ginji are the first characters to pop into my head when I think of Tamagotchi Cheesy.

I do however agree with K-stateFry on the fact that Mametchi is also a very well known character. He was the first ever so called "best character" and you see a lot of him everywhere, especially on Bandais site.

Anyways, when it came down to it, I was torn between voting for Mimitchi or Ginjirotchi.. But I ended up choosing Mimitchi, since you really don't see a lot of Ginjirotchi in the new Tama advertisement. I wish they would include him! Even though I chose Mimitchi, Mimitchi and Ginjirotchi are both my favorites Wink

What a good question! And everyone's answers have been so well thought-out and reasonable too.

I chose Mimitchi, for the reasons others have already stated, but also because of the influence of Mimitchi.com. Kat chose Mimitchi as her mascot, and as the premier Tamagotchi reference site since the originals came out, I must say that it has had a lot of influence on anyone who came across it (myself very much included). Mimitchi is the first name that pops in to my head when I think of Tamagotchi, and I think it's the same for Luke, because I've talked so much about Mimitchi.com.

Three very interesting and compelling opinions, I haven't even voted yet because I'm having a hard time deciding between three of my choices.

Something interesting to note, If you search Mametchi,Mimitchi, or Kuchipatchi on google, Mametchi comes up with the most results, with Mimitchi in second, and Kuchipatchi just behind that in third.

I haven't read the other responses of this yet, I wanted to answer it first so I don't change my mind hehe =) Btw I think this topic is awesome. ^.^

Mametchi. Since the dawn of Tamagotchi he is the one I always saw everywhere. My influence of the original Tamagotchi mostly came from Japanese sources. From everything I understand he was the one they paraded around in all advertising and promotions. I remember seeing people in huge Mametchi costumes outside toy stores in pictures in the news.  Plus so many people wanted to achieve the best - he was the "best" for the P1. It was quite a big deal in the beginning to say you had Mametchi!

I think in the US Kutchipatchi got quite a bit of attention, but only on packaging and in the original advertising as the "chicken" in the egg. I remember so much Mametchi mania *grin*. Course I always wanted it to be Mimitchi Mania... ^.~ When P2 came out I heard many were sad that Mametchi was not available to raise.

These days I still see Mametchi all over everything, but he does not feel as influencial as before. It feels like Mimitchi got more spotlight since the release of connection (he was all over much of the advertising from the very beginning of connection) - but it doesn't feel like any single Tamagotchi really dominates the world of Connection anymore.

When you think of tamagotchi, who is the first character to pop into your mind?

Mimitchi, but Ginji and Mametchi are a close second.

Quote
Who do you think Bandai uses to advertise Tamagotchi products the most?

It really feels like a mishmash of 3 or 4 characters now, not so much any one character dominating any more.

Quote
Who do you think other people who don't know that much about tamagotchi think of if they are ever asked to name a character?

I think they'd say something like "the cute one" or "the one with the ears" or "the beaked one" or "the strawberry dude". Maybe they'd be able to name mametchi if they were around for the P1. I think only the fans really know all the names *grin*

Quote

I still think Mametchi leads the pack, with Mimitchi a close second. Mametchi has the edge because he was there from the very beginning and was use in most of the initial hyped advertising. I think this is especially very true in Japan.

Great topic ^.^

Edit: After reading the other replies; everyone has such good replies. Elana you are always overly nice though, I don't think I've had much impact, but that's very nice of you to say. Before my site in the beginning with P1 there was a site called Tamagotchi Mania and it was by far the first Tama site to make a huge influence from my understanding. I don't remember much about it, except that it was often linked from news articles because at the time it was the best resources online for the P1. They closed the site in 1998 or 1999 I believe. ^.^

I agree with Ginji about the mimitchi.

But for avertising on V3 I'd say mametchi would win. Smiley

I too think that it would be Mimitchi, because I would awlways hear that it is someone's favorite character, and because that it has a nice profile...I would like an I.Q. of 2000! But for now just a mimitchi.

I think Mimitchi. After all mimitchi is the sticker on the front of tamagotchi and i think this sites name sums it all up! But I love lots of characters!

*nod nod* I came upon mimitchi.com and ended up completely falling in love with every version, every character, and every edition. I definitely think it's Kat's influence that causes Mimitchi to come into my head every time I think of any tamagotchi, Mimitchi and Kuchipatchi jump into my head. Can I help it if the kuchpatchi is my favorite?
