[Priestess of Syrinx]

On the 1st June 2007, it was announced by Reuters that an animated Tamagotchi film is to be released in December 2007. The film will be about several tamagotchi who make friends with a human girl. The movie has no release date as of yet and will be distributed by Toho.

Well, this sounds interesting. All the reports I've seen online have a very warning tone, it seems no online magazine is too thrilled about it.
Is it safe to assume it'll be direct-to-video? I can't really imagine this movie having too much of a plot - Some big, bad Wolf-tchi attacking TamaTown?

And while their at it, can they re-release that old Tamagotchi cartoon I either faintly remember? (Or am I hallucinating again?)

I don't think it's safe to assume that it'll be direct-to-video at all. I believe Toho is an important Japanese film production company and I would be surprised if they didn't release the movie in theatres in Japan.

We shouldn't forget how different the Tamagotchi market is in Japan compared to the rest of the world. Interest there is great enough to make movies that would be fairly successful.

As to its quality, I don't know - I don't get many chances to watch Japanese movies about Japanese pop culture icons. I saw the Yu-Gi-Oh! movie (I got a free pass from work) and I can safely say that it was awful, but then again, I don't think much of the card game or the television show. (I don't regret going though, because I heard one of the funniest lines I've ever heard in a movie: "But eternity didn't last forever." ) I know that I would really enjoy downloading and watching a Tamagotchi movie,  if it were subtitled (or maybe even if it weren't!   Caption contest, anyone? )

Ah, okay, my mistake. I was unfamiliar with the name Toho.

If it came to North America, I suppose I might watch it, depending on who dubbed it. Heck, I'd probably download it subbed if someone made it available, if only to see what it was about.

I still can't see there being much of a plot. Anyone got any ideas? I think maybe just a short movie about the original plot about Mikachu and the professor guy finding the Tamagotchi and her bringing them to cool could be interesting, although strays from the direction they're taking now with the adult Tamas being real characters and stuff.

Hey, I remember the old Tamagotchi cartoons! I think I still have the tape in my basement.
