I was so
hoping that this thread was just some kind of joke about Tamagotchi screens...! (You get it? Black and white world?
I know, I know.)
I think that these issues are really
complicated, and would take an advanced degree in sociology/psychology/anthropology to even begin
sorting out the causes and relations! I feel strongly that we're not doing anyone any favours by oversimplifying it to things like blaming gangsta rap.
All we can do, as individuals, is try to live our lives the best we can, to try to preserve our innocence from racial thought, and try to thoroughly examine the stereotypes that do arise within our own minds. We can only be accountable for our own thoughts, and it's at best pointless, at worst dangerous to start "armchair philosophizing" about complicated cultural issues beyond the scope of our own personal experiences - especially when they are issues that tend to lead to hatred, violence, socio-politico-economic segregation, and war.
Eliminate racism in ourselves, attack it when we see it before us, but the only way to truly erase it is to erase
it. Frankly, I would prefer never to see the subject raised at all unless it was obviously provoked. What's the point of reminding ourselves, unless you want to keep the ideas refreshed over and over?
I mean, discussion is really important, but please consider the possibility that someone is reading this and is hearing for the first time
, "black = bad, white = good". Why do you want to be the one to propagate that idea?
