I got a pair of cube world things for christmas. They're simply awesome! I wouldn't consider them an actual pet because all you can do to interact with them is play a game, but the ways they interact with eachother is really cool. They might have gotten the interacting with eachother part from tamagotchi, but other than that they're completely different. They're pretty much little stick figures that have metal plates on their sides that are magnitized so they don't come apart once you push them together. There are metal thingys on the top and bottom too, so they can interact in many ways.
They'll go to eachothers screens and do all sorts of stuff, and they do different things depending on how you connect the metal plates. If you connect them on the top and bottom, they open a trapdoor in the ceiling and go up or down it to get to the others screen.

They're also the first fairly well animated virtual pet type thing that I've seen. They move very realisticly for the amount of pixels on their screens.

I only have two, but when you have lots of them you can get up to four stickmen on one screen. I'd like to see that happen sometime.

I only tried one, a Digi Pet. It was horrible. You can't do anything with it but clean up it's poop and feed it. No games or anything. It was a "10-in1" virtual pet, only 5 dollars. But it was worth less.  Tongue I eventually gave it to a friend who begged for it, but she got bored with it quickly too.  Grin So I don't have a great impression of "rip-off" v-pets. Tamagotchi is the best  Smiley

I am currently playing with a Talking Nano Puppy. This and Nintendogs (and Dogz for PC a long time ago) are the only other virtual pets I've played with. I have to say that for a non-Bandai made pet, Talking Nano Puppies are some of the sweetest pets you could ask for. I once found the voice annoying, but if you don't like it, just turn the sound off. They only need attention every 20 minutes or so in the "Infant" (baby) stage. I've never had one live past zero (battery issues on one, me not feeling like playing with it on the other), but I've read that the food choices change as your puppy grows up. It's nice going to the clock screen because I believe it only takes a second or two. The puppy's face being the screen (with ears and a collar drawn onto the case) makes it very cute. It's kind of like when a Tamagotchi comes up to the screen, just all the time. It's a bit more life-like than the Tamagotchi because it has to drink water or milk or something. You can give it vitamins to ensure good health (although I think only two a day). The second game is cute, although I don't care for the first one. Over all, it's a really good pet.

I still have my original talking nano kitty. I loved it and it worked for several years. Upon trying it again back in 2006 it stopped working...but I just don't have the heart to part with it. I have a talking nano baby somewhere in my room...but in all honestly the thing I feel was defective. At adulthood the picture went weird o_O;;

I've enjoyed my Dinkie Dino, and also this one called 'Hitorikko'

They were so simple and non needy. But there were other ones that were from the dollar store and they were so annoying

I've played this fake Digi pet thing it was sooo boring, it was $5. The only thing you could do was feed it, medicine it, and clean up poo. The game was lame the only thing you could was watch a Kite fly boring Sad. Also they didn't evolve and it constalny beeped at nite, I gave it to my cousin, and I got it from KB toys.

NON TAMAGOTCHI
I've enjoyed Digimon! Smiley The one where you start out with Augumon, that was the first every virtual pet toy I played, it was so fun but that was a very long time ago. Tamagotchi's are ok, but It wouldn't really beat Digimon because it doesn't have the fighting feature on their, although on the new tamagotchi's you can earn points, but it seemed like tamagotchi's are the soft, and happy version of Digimon in my opinion. Also I loved the designs and and shapes of the Digivice's.
