They all look very nice, my favourite must be the yellow one with the polka-dots. Looks classic. Puzzle pieces and flames are very close runners-up.

Question- do the antennae do anything or hold any hardware, or they just there to look 'hip' and weigh down the thing?

I plan on getting a V4.5, I didn't get a V4 so I could spend more time with my V3 (which I only got Christmas '06), and because I knew there was the 4.5 right around the corner.

Hopefully they won't suck! =D

That's quite disappointing...

You know this happened to the original Tamagotchi in the US. They released P1 and less then a year later they released P2 and it was huge throughout those years in the market... then things went downhill because after that they started just releasing new egg colors and no new programming. While I guess 4.5 is different as P2 was to P1 - it still might look and feel the same to less then hardcore fans.

They did release Tama Angel in the US, but at that time the reputation was already "nothing is changed except the egg shell design" so people ignored it (along with only one chain store, Target, putting it on the market).

It is time for an entirely new idea to pick up the market, before it dies from the general public and once again becomes a private collect/hardcore fan base.

I hope they do something entirely new soon, or I fear the future of Tamagotchi will be back to it's old state of 3-4 years back... out of store and unavailable (except on ebay).

Sorry for rambling, as I'm sure I've said something similar before but... it's just one of those "things"...  Undecided

I'm sorry for continuing to steer this thread off-topic - we're meant to be discussing the designs here, there's a separate thread to discuss the unit itself - but I really wanted to respond to the recent disappointed posts! Because personally, I'm still very optimistic.

I am extremely excited about the PC pack that's coming out with the 4.5 (see Black Candy's thread for more details). If it's only compatible with the 4.5, that will be a huge incentive to buy it. The PC pack does come with its own exclusive 4.5, but I usually feel compelled to buy two of any type of Connection, to see all the connection features in their full glory. I would feel like the coolest girl in the world with my Tamagotchi docked at my computer like an iPod, with voice recognition...! Shocked And to have my character animated and fetching my email - adorable!

Also, don't forget that all this stuff is scheduled to be released in the fall, if I'm not mistaken. Just because you heard the press release at a time that seems much too early, don't forget that it will be some time before the stuff actually hits the market! By then people might be ready for a new Tamagotchi.

But in my opinion, the unit itself is not the exciting part. It's the peripherals that they're releasing that seem really exciting and innovative.

I am also optimistic about what it means for them to be doing a "mid-year refresh" by releasing a ".5" version. Sometimes this means that they're biding their time, keeping their product in people's minds, while they finish up the research & development for some awesomely new product!

PS, maybe we should shift all the posts not specifically about the designs and put them in Black Candy's original thread?

tama love you absolutely ROCK! how did you get those amazing designs? I looked on the web for the v4.5 designs and eventually I gave up, but now I know ahead of time what I want instead of having to look at them at the store, spend too much time deciding, take them all out separately, and so on. [the taking out separately really annoys the salesepeople who wear those blue vests at walmart.

Yeah those designs aren't too shabby eh? I'm hoping to get one when they begin to float around. Cross your fingers I have some funds by then Wink

Also: those walmart people don't scare me. If they give you any trouble tell them the customer is always right and if they have a problem finding what YOU want then I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you have a nice chat with the manager Wink

I don't think the V4.5 is out yet. Wasn't it September '07 or something?
