snickerdoodle : ooO where are you? Central Pacific?  Oh what dog do you have? I have 1 dog, 2 cats, 5 goldfishes and yes, a DH

One of the goldfish is sick right now, it's having blisters on his belly and is in isolation. Hopefully it will get better in isolation, I got it as a feeder fish, like an inch length, it is now the length of my palm.

I was on a tamagotchi spree this few days and I bought a couple, ok, another ...

  • 3 US version of V3
  • 1 Jap version V2
  • 1 Jap version Plus
  • 1 Uratama
  • 1 set Mesu & Osu

I still have a couple on my wishlist, a US version of V2 and another Uratama - for now. I need to stop... so that I can enjoy my tama babies

How do everyone carry their tama babies? I tried to use the lanyard for two of my tama babies and they kept clinking/clanking when I move... I was even thinking of some case pouch so I can bring them around  Need to think of something!

I live east coast USA. 2 children. One dog, for the moment. She's a little weenie dog.

And a DH also.  Smiley

Sadly, most goldfish aren't long lived.  Sad  If you get them in good health, with no unseen illnesses lurking, then they may live a good long time. How long is your fish?

You have a lot of tamas. Wow. But that's a very good thing.

My sweeties are all sleeping this morning.

These are the pouches I basically use for mine. You might find them cheaper throughout the net rather than on eBay.

snickerdoodle: This one is about 2 years old.. infact all of them are about weeks apart. I tend to buy things at about the same time

My tiny dog is a chi .. he's smaller than the 2 cats. hehee some identity crisis here.

Regarding those pouches.. only one can fit in there ... right? so I would need a couple of them ..

Sadly, most goldfish aren't long lived.  Sad  If you get them in good health, with no unseen illnesses lurking, then they may live a good long time.

That is a myth, a product of our culture taking abhorrently bad care of goldfish. Goldfish die early not necessarily because of disease (although I'm sure that happens a lot), but very frequently because they're not cared for in the proper environment.

Goldfish cannot survive in bowls, despite popular opinion. Their optimal environment (please don't be shocked) is about 10-20 gallons of water per fish, with a filter. Goldfish actually require more space than the average fish. The stereotype of a goldfish in a "goldfish bowl" is actually a slow death by suffocation, stunting their growth and eventually killing them. The only species of fish that can live a healthy life in a bowl is the Betta splendens, aka Siamese fighting fish, because they evolved in the rice paddies of southeast Asia, where the water is very slow-moving and shallow. They actually evolved a special breathing apparatus called a "labyrinth" so that they can extract oxygen from the air by coming up to the surface. Goldfish do not have that so they need lots of aerated water to survive.

The natural lifespan of a goldfish is around twenty years! They actually get pretty big if they're properly cared for. The oldest known goldfish actually lived for 43 years, in Yorkshire England. (source)

For more info, you can check out The Goldfish Sanctuary. Although no longer active, they used to organize goldfish adoption. It's still a very interesting and informative site.

If all life is sacred, then so are the lives of 25¢ feeder fishies. Cheesy

Thanks for reading. I  fishies.

We had one live for a good two years in our 10 gallon until he jumped out and committed suicide.  Undecided We used to feed him flies which he loved. He was big and strong not to mention beautiful.

Smiley thanks. He was the best fishie ever. We could even touch him with our fingers; just so gentle and trusting.

What about your fish? Any photos?

Regarding pouches, I got one my bro got me from japan that can hold 4 snuggly. I also saw some on ebay as well, custom made ones that can hold about the same amount. I'm sure you could find one Smiley Welcome to the forums btw.

I had a Betta fish named Taurus whom I loved very very much... when I rescued him from a pet shop he was already pretty old and a little decrepit... he had some signs of a previous battle with fin rot due to unclean water. But we had a good two years together. He was a total darling, very clever, he always got excited when I came home and I loved hearing his little <bloops> of when he would come up to the surface to breathe. He finally caught a bacterial infection one day and after a week or so of fighting it with medications and stuff, he finally gave in.  Cry

I only have a few blurry pictures because it's so hard to take a photo through curved glass.  Undecided

Anyway, that's enough hijacking of this thread.
