I got a really good deal on a Tamagotchi (V4 blue with waves and red buttons and antenna thing) at a thrift shop. The package was opened, the tab had been pulled and the batteries were dead, but it came complete with instructions, the little paper of Tamagotchi characters and even the little thing that keeps the Tamagotchi from moving out of place. It was REALLY cheap so I bought it. On the way home, I noticed that the edges weren't as together as they should be, meaning someone had opened it. When I got home and put in the battery there was an egg and a half (normally the egg wobbles up and down, but here were the two stages of wobbling on top of each other). I pressed B and chose RESET. It showed the same egg and a half. I thought that that was weird and hit B again. Upon starting to enter the date, I noticed that when I wasn't pressing the A button to choose the numbers they were flickering (REALLY fast) on and off. So I thought that this was just a glitch and pressed the actual reset button. The same egg and a half again. After hitting the reset button several times, I taped the battery in and that didn't work. Then I looked closer at the back of the Tamagotchi under the battery. The two bottom of the four small screws were gone. I proceeded to open the Tamagotchi. I unscrewed the two top screws (with a knife Tongue) and looked at the circuitry. I couldn't see anything wrong with it. I tried letting it alone for a bit, but that didn't work either. Could anyone either provide a picture of what the circuit board is supposed to look like or give any advice (other than buy a new one)? Otherwise I'll have to return it to the store I got it from.

Odd things I've noticed:
1:The egg and a half (never seen it before, never want to again)
2: Once when I left it alone for a while, it became a single frozen egg and the attention icon lit up
3: Once when I reset it, it was an egg with a black bar going down vertically through it
4: If I press A and C at the same time it goes to the sound on/off screen. Turning the sound off does nothing. I can't pause the egg though.
5: No icons light up (except the attention icon)

I decided to try and get past the egg. I now know why it's like that. The reason there was an egg and a half was that the Tamagotchi was on permanent hyper speed. The game couldn't keep up with the slow wobbling egg. I named it and it lived through baby hood in around ten seconds. I got it paused as a Harutchi. Does anyone know how to un-hyperspeed it?
Oh, it wasn't just the character either. The whole clock was three hours ahead and I hadn't even fed the poor thing yet. What's really sad is that that was the first boy I've ever gotten on a V4.

I finally got it to work!!!!!! I debugged using a CUTIP!
So, the moral of this story is:
A: Don't debug V4s
B: If you do, be willing to deal with consequences

Sounds very nerve wrecking. I'm glad you got him working and in normal order. How crazy is that!

Thanks Jiro and Mimitchi for posting!
I bought the Tamagotchi when it was debugged (of course I didn't know that, the battery was dead), so I guess I bugged it (or un-debugged it Roll Eyes).

About three US dollars Grin. (That's not counting the battery though, but it's still much cheaper than getting a brand new one).
