As some of you may have noticed by now, you have a Karma rating by your user name in each of your posts.

When you reach 50 posts you will notice next to every users posts like this:

--------
 Karma: 0
[applaud] [smite]
--------

When you see a helpful or good post that you enjoyed, you can use the Applaud link to raise that users Karma. If a user is spamming or doing something annoying or they post inaccurate information or for whatever reason, you may use Smite, which lowers the users Karma.

The Karma number shown is the total after all Applaud has been added and all Smite has been minused out.

Anyone with negative karma, even if their post count is above 20, cannot alter other peoples karma. This restriction is released once the person with negative karma reaches 0 karma.

My advise is to not take Karma too seriously or personally. It is to encourage people to post good quality posts and information. ^^

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

I'm not a part of Tamatalk so I am not familiar with their Karma system.

There are some more things I can do with the Karma system here but I am hesitant to install them as I don't want folks to obsess over Karma (something I have seen happen on a Final Fantasy XI board I frequent). Karma systems can make or break a community, so for now I have a very light version of a Karma system installed here.

I may or may not add install more to do with the Karma system in the future.. or I may just get rid of it all together if it becomes a nuisance Smiley Depends what happens. Only time will tell =)

I actually like this system better than TT's personally. Sure theirs is more colourful but this one just makes sense. Loving the forums so far Mimitchi Cheesy

right now you'll see just:

Karma: 0 (or whatever the points is for the person)

When you reach 50 posts you will see this:

--------
 Karma: 0
[applaud] [smite]
--------

and your second question - because anyone with 20 posts or more can give karma to anyone, no matter how many posts that person has.
