What's the first thing happened in your childhood you can remember on your own? (without photographs or someone else telling you the thing)

I have 2 and I'm not really sure which one is earlier so I tell both;

In one memory I'm in granma's and granpa's house, in hallway that connects livingroom and kitchen, granma and granpa are sitting on chairs and playing with me, we throw a ball to each other and when the ball falls to floor and rolls away from us I go and get it and give it back to them.
Granpa died when I had just turn to 2yo so it must be before that.
This memory is kinda blurry, I can't remember granma's and granpa's faces well but I remember clearly granpa's black curly hair and what kind of grey sweater he had...odd.

Other early memory takes place in empty yard just across the street from the house we lived in when I was under school-age. In the memory I'm on my kick-forward toybike (you know these 4-wheel toy bikes and cars where you sit atop and move forward with pushing yourself onwards by feet) and moving along a path that went across the empty yard to a small shack that was abandoned there before the surrounding houses were build there.
I don't remember anyone coming to get me back to our yard, but mum has told me that she remembers at least one time when I run away through the front yard's open gate, crossed the (really small and low-traffic) street and scrolled across the empty yard with my sit-atop toybike, and she had to get me back.
I can still remember what kind of plants there grew in the empty yard, it was summer or spring and sunny weather, and I can still remember that my toybike was black with red wheels. I must have been around 2 years old in this memory too.

Very interesting how the contrast of color and the textures were highly intriguing to you so you remember those details. And as you can see in your second memory you also talk about colors.."my toybike was black with red wheels." Funny how we capture life in somewhat like snapshots. Do you dream in color by any chance?

My Memories:

age 3?
I was sitting on the linoleum in the hall of the apartment building we lived in, with my two older brothers. We were all either a year or a two apart. We were counting out the content of our piggy banks. I was exchanging dimes for nickels with them because the nickles were bigger and I thought they had more value.

age 5?

A boy in that same apartment building shared his bike with me in the courtyard because he had a crush on me. His name was Bobby. His bike had training wheels and I had never ridden one before. He was my first boyfriend.  Grin

age 6?

In the spring, we would slide down the grassy hillside on flat cardboard boxes. Often times we'd tear up our knuckles when it stuck halfway down the hill and our hands were sucked down under while the rest of us went toppling. Of course, like fools, we'd do it all again and again.

 Cheesy Thanks!

Aww, Jiro's elbow!  Kiss

My earliest memory is a total snapshot with hardly any plot at all. I must have been three because I hadn't gone to kindergarten yet. I was just standing at the kitchen counter on my tiptoes, barely able to see over it. My mom was on the other side, preparing food. She looked at me and smiled, and said, "Don't you want to go play or something?" And I said, "No, I want to watch you."

When I think about it, it's pretty telling of my psyche... I'm an only child, so for my very earliest years, my mother was my universe.

This is an interesting topic! Aww, poor elbow of yours Jiro. Sad

I have tons of memories from when I was little, and they come to me every now and then. Well, I will just give all the pre-5 memories which come to me.
[EDIT - actually, I have only put the ones which I consider important.. I am remembering too much!!]

Lets see, what i can remember right now:

-> When I was about 1 or 2, I remember being left at the kindergarten and my parents were going, and I felt sad, and I could see the silhouette of someone near me (but at the time I thought I was looking at myself). XD
I also remember the inside of a green mug with range juice because the kindergarten monitors were trying to force orange juice down me and I didn't want it because I didn't like it. I ended up having to have some of it, but getting some down them too.

I remember the kindergarten pediatrician, which I liked, but my parents always wanted to keep me off school when he came, because they always complained I was underweight, which reminds me when I was 3 years old, I weighed 12 kilos, because whenever I stood on the scales, it marked number 12.

I remember playing Doom 2 with my father on the 1993 computer, and sometimes getting bad dreams with it, but I still liked the game. XD

--------
When I was little, I got a load of illnesses. Well, not a load, but I happened to have bronquitis when I was two, and I remember standing in a corner of the living room, and my father saying:
"You have to take the medicine" or something along those lines, and I was trying to hide in the corner, but I decided the medicine would help my cough, and had it.

I remember when I had chicken pox, I would have to have talcum powder put on the spots, and I used to love the smell. ^^ I remember being reminded constantly (I was 3 or 4 then, and got the worst case out of the kindergarten) not to pick at the spots. Even so, I do have one or two small scars on an arm and on my side. XD Mind you, I found it cool. XD

I also got four hernias when I was 2 and when I was 3. When I was two, I remember lying in a hospital bed, and there was another girl with an unknown illness, and we'd play. I remembr sitting on her bed, but not much else. I also remember coughing heavily because of my hernia when I was two, and I thought I had press-studs on my shoulder (actually, they must have been, I don't know, hospital stuff). My parents, to keep me "entertained" would pick me up and let me look through the hospital window (I was by the window) and show me the Giralda, a monument, so I remember seeing the GIralda during the day, and at night, and me saying: "Can I see the Giralda again Mummy?"  And then, well, parents have to shower, to they would say "I have to go home and have a shower", and I would imagine them walking over the Barqueta bridge. XD

More hospital memories:
-> The red light in the wall at night, which now I know more about life, I twig it must be the emergency button.
-> When I was taken into the operation room (it must've been), and they put on this awful mask with a terrible smell over my face, which made me see everything darker. I guess I was being put to sleep.
-> When I had to get my stitches out, we were walking to the hospital, and I remember the exact conversation XD:
"Dad... Where are we going?" (standing behind a door which was half open)
"You are going to have your stitches taken out" (I remember wondering what stitches were)
...Inside
A woman pulling out my stitches and it tickled me terribly, and I was just laughing and lauging (oh yes, and I remembermy one and only blood test XD)

MMm, I could go on ith kindergarten memories, and going-to-school memories, and holiday-memories all before I was 5 years old. I don't know if it the fact I have a good memory, or just that I am still very young, but I can remember too much to go on. Smiley Unless I remember something more particular. XD

The earliest memory I have is a rather odd one. I remember having my vaccines when I was young, possibly like a year or two old.
I remember waiting in a circular room and all these mothers and babies waiting too. I can remember lying on the table looking around, and a light.

That's all, but... whenever we passed that circular building that memory came back to me.

Another more homely one was coming out to the loungeroom in the early morning and watching my Dad eat his breakfast. This is my most happy memory of him. He was eating bacon and scrambled eggs, with lots of pepper watching TV.

Oh! Sorry, another one came back to me. We were waiting around to visit our family friend, we were waiting on the stairs in his apartment block. This man came up to us and asked us if we wanted to buy a radio for $10. Believe it or not, we still have that radio after 15/16 odd years or so, 10806IX is the channel I grew up on. Play any song on that radio and I can sing along to it. It was played quite literally all day, every day just in the background.

My earliest memory would be when I was about 1 and a half or 2. We were living in our first house and I remember not being able to talk very well. I remember just crawling around the house and crawling up and down the stairs. I liked to see what was going on around me Cheesy

My second one would be when I was 2 and we were living in our second house. I was sleeping and then my cat Buskers jumped up on my bed and he really scared me. I didnt know what it was. I remember my mom coming in then and telling me it was just "puss" jumping up to say hello to me Smiley hehe!

My earliest memory is getting lost in a mall.  How cliche is that?  I'm serious, though.  I was with my grandfather and we went to a toy store I think while my grandmother and mother shopped.  But they forgot to tell us where they were going, so we had no idea where they were.  Of course I spazzed out and started crying my eyes out, but we eventually found them and I calmed down.

Seems like I had an even earlier one, but I can't think right now...
