Pleo the Dinosaur pet
«

I found this article
Furby inventor hopes next hot toy will be a dino baby
- if you want my honest opinion... I loved Furby a lot and I think he was easy for people to love and relate to. But a Dinosaur? Maybe they are going for the male market more then the female market. They say they are looking at the pre-teen and adult market.
Really I don't honestly find a dinosaur to be that enduring. That could be me, but I still associate them with being rather like the mean and angry beasts from Jurassic Park.
Regardless it still looks interesting.. I'm sure adults will be interested in the whole "downloading new behaviors from the company's Web site or write their own programs" and "open source platform" portion of this new pet.
But.. like Furby maybe I just need to see it in person, then maybe I will change my mind about it
What do y'all think?

Remember that not all dinos were carnivores, and only ones in JP that were dangerous for ppl were tyrannosaurs and velociraptors. Compsoghnatuses, compys, the third carnivore species in JP were scanvengers.
That Pleo looks like a maiasaur baby. Maiasaurs are the one species of dinos known to take good care of their eggs and babies and guarding them from beasts. The main character in Disney's Dinosaur was maiasaur.
I don't think ppl will would want T-rex or raptor baby walking on their tables but vegetarian dinos babies like stegosaur, triceratops and brachiosaur would be nice idea

Actually there is 4th carnivore dino in JP; The one that has fan-like "wings" growing outta the side of it's head and which spits the green slime that makes you blind.
The geek guy who's trying to steal dino germs from the Park ends up crashing AT car outta the roadin storm and encounters one - with worse results.
You should read Lost World novel (sequel to Dinosaur Park where JP bases) where is these neat color-changing carnivore dinos that can emulate example carlight spots in their skin when standing in darkness. Gee...

Nintendo Wii is gonna cost 230-250 dollars so 200USD for a Aibo-like robotic pet is kinda...much.
How much Aibos cost?

Oh I've read the two jurassic park books but that was around 10 years ago, I would need to read them again to recall it from the books. I recall the movie, but.. the meat eaters stick out in my mind way more. It's just me I guess, I wouldnt find any kind of dinosaur cuddly =)
Aibo base cost was around 1099, without the much needed extras. Witha ll the extras expect 1500 =)

Triceratops baby Pleo Dino Pet for me thanks, Santa! Gee...not before I find job that pays me twice as much I get now...phuh.
I think Pleo will be Aibo put into a dino skin, some features drop off and with that extra programming option can do just the same in the future.
They should call it Dibo
So Aibo costs about 1100$ and Pleo will cost around 200$. Which do you think ppl will buy at the time Pleo comes available?
Self Note: Looks like Sony discotinued AIBO selling in January 2006, so no AIBOs available anymore.

Well, just remember, you get what you pay for. Aibo's are amazing, their movements are remarkably fluid, their reactions to their environments are surprisingly accurate (as long as there's enough light), and some of the mods are really fun (I mean, when you have a wireless network card in your head, all sorts of things are possible).
On top of that, they're actually really cute, unlike alot of the other robotic toys that ppl seem to be mass producing lately.
