I'm a bit of a schedule junkie (I carry around a Palm Treo and I also have two notebook agendas and a wall calendar - they all serve different purposes, okay??), so I discovered something of an e-Holy Grail of scheduling: Google Calendars. Does anyone else have a Google Calendar? You put in your schedule (it can also sync with a bunch of different computer scheduling software, so I sync it with my Palm), and you can see your friends' schedules superimposed on your schedule, so you can see when you're both available. You can also automatically invite your friends to stuff and they can RSVP right in the system. You can set how private you want your calendar to be. So like, my boyfriend and my very good friends can see everything in my calendar, but everyone else just sees "Busy" for all my appointments.

Since it's Google, I'm willing to bet that it can juggle time zone differences.

So if you want to be a crazy scheduling junkie like me, we can all get Google Calendars and fill in the important stuff (like going to Singapore or visiting family), superimpose everyone's calendars at once, and see which pockets of time are agreeable to everyone!

And that system can be used over and over again. Plus it's a neat thing to have for yourself. Smiley

Anyway, that's my far-out idea. I realize it's kind of a lot to implement. But I couldn't help myself - I love Google Calendars!

I voted 25th December, but I don't mind doing it on January too (most people on January try to choke themselves eating grapes, I watch TV till 0:00 instead...).

I wouldn't want to do it on Xmas Eve though.

Yeah christmas would probably be bad for me since it looks like we're going to Hamilton to see family and go out to dinner. And who knows what goes on christmas day. I'd like it to be in January or possibly closer to march? Birthday group hatch would be awesome lol.

If I get IRC to work in my cellphone, we can sort the timezone table the way you American on Aussies have daytime/evening at the time of chat.

I can put alarm to wake me up in the early AM, be awake short time and chat from bed through cellphone and then fall asleep with connection open...
...I mean say bye-bye and continue sleeping Grin

I'm calculating new time zone tables at the time to see if I can find one that has 'good' hour of the day for everybody. In the versions I have made this far, only ones who have to wake up really late or really early are me, Spiffy and Jiro.

I'm using USA, Australia and western Europe as the places to keep in mind when making time zone table, cause most of the ppl in TSS are from these places.

*continues calculating*

Nothing says we can't set up multiple hatchings

Perhaps to make everyone happy the 25th and the 1st are good.

Maybe once a month we'll have a scheduled hatching. Maybe like the first Saturday and/or first Sunday of each month.

Not everone has to hatch but anyone that wants can show up and chat with those that are Smiley

I just realized that if Earth could be flat we had only 2 timezones; Daytime and nighttime. Both lasting 12 'our' hours Cheesy

That'll be much more easy when it comes to planning group hatches Tongue

I like all of those ideas. The 24th and 1st seem like popular dates. I also think having a monthly hatching is a good idea, so that there's always one around the bend for newcomers or people who missed the last one. I do think, however, that it should switch around time of day each month, so that it will favour different time zones on different months. It wouldn't be fair to make the Aussies wake up early every time and have it be at a comfortable time for Americans every time, just as an example.

I also have personal stake in changing up the times, because I don't want to be excluded month after month due to my work schedule.  Wink
