With Bandai of America seemingly reluctant to release a new version of tamagotchi (such as the uber-cool iD), there's a new tamagotchi-esque gadget that's got my attention. It's the Pokewalker, available for use with the two new Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver versions.

 While this doesn't involve caring for your pokemon (which would be totally awesome), you can choose any pokemon you've caught and upload it onto the device from your game pack. From there, it works in a way that reminds one of the classic Pokemon Pikachu pedometer toy wherein your steps taken gain watts which can increase the pokemon's level. Once you've collected enough watts to gain one level, the data must be transferred back to the DS game, and you can begin again. Also through the pokewalker you can find rare items and hard-to-find pokemon, or even pokemon exclusive (on these versions) to the pokewalker!

Overall, it's a sweet deal. I plan to fire mine up for the first time tomorrow when I meet some friends at the mall. Speaking of friends, you can gain up to 10 items per friend each day by linking your pokewalker to theirs. Also, throughout the month of April, you can gain acess to a special walking route on your pokewalker where you can catch pikachus that know fly, surf, and volt tackle through a wifi event. Is anyone else here excited about this new device?

I have one Cheesy I don't find it as a virtual pet, more as a virtual gadget.

Here is more info. If you put a Pokemon onto the pokewalker and lost it, at the pokewalker screen on the Pokemon game, Press and hold Up, Select, and R to get the Pokemon back. it wont gain anything, unfortunately.

Well... if the pokemon pikachu's considered to be a virtual pet, then I definitely consider the pokewalker to be one. I've seen one of my friends using his, and whether you exactly care for it or not, it does remind one of a tamagotchi.

All my friends currently have one right now.

They always buy the new Pokemon game whenever it comes out, unfortunately I haven't the money to get it right now, but it seems pretty cool. Will definitely be buying the game/pokewalker when I can.

I don't even really care about the new games... I mean, I've played through Crystal more times than I care to admit, I think I've had enough of Johto.
Buuuttttt I want a Pokewalker. Like really badly.
So I might end up buying it just for that. 3=

I remember first hearing about this little guy from stuff I read and what Kokuma would tell me about the re-release of Gold/Silver for the DS. I need to remind myself to get that at some point @_@ lol.

Is it about the same size as the colour pikachu pedometer? I honestly haven't seen many pictures of the device.

I measured my pokewalker; it's two inches in diameter (both ways, I measured it like this since the device is circular). The screen is about one and a quarter inches diagonally, like they measure tv or monitor screens. The battery cover spans the device's entire back and can be removed and replaced with a back that will attach to your belt like an actual pedometer would. That's the back I prefer to use, I keep it attached to my pant pocket.

Today, I returned my togepi from a walk on the pedometer, and a cute little illustrated story showed up, detailing all of the things that togepi had done while out for a walk. It's incredibly cute! I must admit that I probably got HG for sole purpose of connecting the pokewalker to it, but that doesn't mean I'm  not enjoying every minute of the actual game. I've been a fan of pokemon since its earliest days, and playing this game now feels all too classic.

I want the game (SoulSilver) so bad mostly because of the Pokewalker. Unfortunate I can't find my nDS, so that's no good. D;

I'd probably be laughed at if I walked around with the Pokewalker... though I could attach it onto Fabian to dodge the LoL's *evil laugh*
