There was also Tamagotchi anime (japanese cartoon) show that was aired in Japan from 1997 to 1998, total 27 episodes (27x25min)
As Tamagotchi is sort of "ancestor" to Digimon, Tama anime was kinda pre-Digimon anime without all battle and "digivolution" stuff.
The show follows the original story of Tamas being tiny aliens who crash into the Earth, are saved by this professor and raised by his assistant, Mikachu, the girl with round pigtails.

Anime! TV Hakken de Tamagotch (Animation! Tamagotchi that came from TV), I have seen just couple of screenshots and I own the opening song as media file. The animation quality looks basic Toei product (Digimon, DoReMi) and the song is sure cute and catchy...for awhile. After hearing couple of times it starts to bubble out of your ears
The anime follows everyday life of Mikachu and her friends from school. They ecah have Tama, and the Tamas can talk, they grow and follow the kids as Digimons follow the digidestined in Digimon anime. There might be some "kids save planet Earth from evil alien invanders with their Tama friends" plot in the show but I don't know for better.
Mikachu of course has Mimitchi.
