I've been here long enough to know that we as members are penalised for bumping topics. But there is a problem with this. This forum doesn't really get a lot of posts very often, so the only topics we see are ones that haven't been posted in in months. So from how I see it, we get penalised for posting in topics that we can see. Moreover, some of the topics that are more recent may not be something we can contribute to. In other words, one may have more interest in a tipic that is several months old but not one that's been posted in in the past week. So, I personally feel (and suggest) that we extend the bumping time to at least six (6) months after the last post. I hope you will take this into account a little bit at least; I'm not demanding you make this change but I think it would be a good idea.

That's some good points you made there Duchess. I personally don't see a problem with this idea and if it's implemented I'd be all for it Smiley

I just have a question... how do you get penalized?  Smiley

Because I don't... I don't think I've ever banned a single person for bumping old topics. ^.~

Guidelines are there to help regulate flow and keep things going in a general sense of how a forum should operate. I do always use common sense when dealing with each situation Smiley

You will not get banned for bumping an old topic.

If that did not address your concern... let me know your worries specifically so I can set your mind at ease Smiley

I think we may have different ideas about penalisation. For me just getting -1 karma affects my self-esteem. I mean I have issues of my own but I think the problem here is that I don't understand the karma system. Do you think perhaps you could make them more clear?

In the simplest words; Karma is there to encourage people to create good quality enjoyable posts. That is it's only real purpose.

For example; It is to discourage someone from replying to a billion threads with "ok" and "me too".  But instead to reply with at least a few sentences that makes it worth someones while to click on a link and read the post.

There are many things i *could* have done with Kara.. such as requiring people to state a reason. But after talking to my hubby when we initially set this board up we concluded that that would only result in hurt feelings or heavily competitive feelings. That isn't what we wanted to do here. Since the topic is love of tamagotchi and other virtual pets we wanted to keep that the topic instead of "how can I make my kara score higher".

So we went simplistic.. the number does nothing, it is a very simple plus and minus system. It is only to try and encourage good quality post content. I don't use it to judge a person or how I treat them if they write to me or if there are problems, etc.

When someone clicks the words there is no verification so there are chances people may accidentally click it or click the wrong one.

You should also keep in mind that lately the boards have been very slow, hardly anyone here. I don't believe there's been much karma given out in either direction too much when things are this slow.

I wouldn't focus too much on that little number. You've been posting here for a while and your posts are always good. Smiley
