"Replaces LR44!"

So I picked up some batteries from the store today.
They're not LR-44s, but they claim to 'replace' them. I know this is all fine and dandy with analog watches and the like, but will these damage a Tamagotchi?

AG13's and LR44's both are safe in my book. If you aren't sure, I'd go with your gut on this one and not use them. Maybe if you have a spare tama you could try it on you don't mind if it gets damaged try it with them? I dunno...I'd just stick with what I know.

Exactly what kind of batteries were they? any, identifying numbers? There is probably a site somewhere that would know if they are okay for tamagotchis.

This simply call themselves '357', they're the Dollarama-brand "Mighty Cell", if that helps. They say they replaces LR-44, AG-13, and two other types.

Ah. I honestly wouldn't risk it. Dollar stores have all kinds of cheap things to use that are useful and effective, but with virtual pets if I want to be safe, I get what I know works.

The Virtual Pet website has a FAQ page with details on battery types, and the 357 is listed, so I would have thought it would be ok, although "Mighty Cell" brand isn't mentioned.

It's #4 on the FAQ list.

It's under 'Generic brands' though so I think I might try it with my New Generation Giga Pet sometime before my P1 dies.
Thank you!

Not sure, although you might want to be wary of dollar store stuff as well. 357 is a common alias or designation for LR44 for many brands according to wiki.
I personally buy Duracell batteries from Canadian Tire (Zellers, Wal-Mart, American stores, etc all have them too I'm sure, but were a pain in my experience). They're labelled as 76A in large, bold font, but below this it also says 1.5V PX76A/675A/A76/LR44/MR44. There are a lot of dif aliases, which can be confusing and annoying. I look specifically for the LR44 label though.
Originally, on my first trip, my local store was sold out of them (only to be flooded again as soon as I walked out), so I went to a dif Canadian Tire. The associate proceeded to inform me that he didn't think Duracell made LR44, that SR44 was their brand equivalent. He obviously didn't really know what he was talking about, but he was right in that SR and LR, in common usage, are considered interchangable. The 'R44' just designated the battery size, and the L/S designate a dif battery type. S has a higher energy density (which should mean it lasts longer I suppose) and is about $7, as opposed to $2. >_>' Their voltages are virtually the same tho, and I don't think there's any harm to using them. They both work, and are currently powering my original P2 and Digimon.
One thing I've wondered though, is if switching batteries or using partially used batteries is actually harmful. I'm pretty sure it's recommended against as a general precaution, but not sure about its merit. Come to think of it, would using particularly old batteries, including batteries that have past their expiry/best before date be harmful, or just risky?
