My apologies for this not being directly related to Tamagotchi, but I felt it was a problem that you guys may (or may not, I dunno) have had some experience with.

I have a very cheap Tamagotchi knock-off, nameless other than the fact that it's from Scholastic. Despite it being a baby-to-adult growth and having many stolen sprites from Tamagotchi and Digimon, I'm still very fond of it.

Anyway, I went to go start up my pet again as I had left it off (without batteries to prevent leakage) for quite a while. It is made of cheap plastic and has a very small screw on its battery door. I went to unscrew it to put the batteries in, and found that no matter which way I turned the screw, nothing was accomplished. Eventually prying the door off was in order. This probably was a mistake. I put the batteries in (it takes LR44s, the button cell ones) and it doesn't turn on as a piece of metal on the battery door needs to be connected in order for it to work.
It works without the door being screwed on, but I try screwing it on anyway for safety reasons. Same problem - No matter what I do, nothing happens. I notice some plastic dust around the edge of the hole and, with a flashlight, peer down into it - the edges for the screw appear gone.

Is duct-taping the battery door on my only option now? I cannot think of anything else.

Again, my apologies if this is in the wrong section or is unfit for the forum.

Well that's a bit of a predicament!

I'm a little confused about the details of the problem though.
the edges for the screw appear gone.
— what exactly is missing? The incisions in the head? The threading on the shaft? The helix on the inside of the hole?

If it's a problem with the screw, maybe you can borrow a screw from another virtual pet that you're not using right now. (Idea inspired by this post by Tigerlily)

If it's a problem with the hole — well, duct tape isn't so bad is it?

Yeah, the spiral inside the hole where the screw goes is...gone.

Maybe I'll find some blue duct tape somewhere.
Does that exist? o_O

I know red duct tape exists, according to my mom.

I'm pretty sure you can spray-paint duct tape, right?

Probably.

And if not, yellow or grey looks just as good.

Thanks for your input.
