Will Tamagotchi make a smooth transition to color?

As we're all aware, Bandai Japan have officially announced their plans to take Tamagotchi to a whole new level with fully colored screens. I was sitting here wondering will it still be as fun (or even more fun) as what we have now with our pixelated screens. We've seen other digital pets come out with full color screens, only to end up in bargin bins (Muichiz, anyone?). I'm kind of partial to the nostalgia of the pixelated screen, but I'm also excited. Was the Celebrity/Royal Famitama the last in it's line?
Also I'm wondering what kind of batteries this newer model takes, and what sort of life they have. I can imagine it's not nearly as good as previous models...
I have so many questions about this newer model that I can't wait to get more information and to actually get a model for myself to get a little one on one playing with it.

Those are some really good questions, I hadn't even thought about the batteries. Maybe they switched to some new type of batteries and thats affected how they shaped this tama, considering it is shaped slightly different. Hopefully they have upgraded the battery, otherwise the battery life will be horrible.
But I think it will be a smooth transition, it gives each character a new distinction. Before they were only shaped differently, but now they will each be colored differently as well.
And I figure color televisions were pretty well accepted, so maybe these will be as well.

Better yet, not only the type of battery, but also how it uses it perhaps? Maybe it'll have a recharging feature like the Nintendo DS's do? I know it's odd to think of a tamagotchi we could plug in and charge for the night, but I think it would be pretty cool

I never considered that. That will be interesting to see if they did indeed implement that into the tama. If they did, it would be cool if they gave you a cradle to set your tama in while you charged it.

I too am looking forward to seeing how this new coloured Tama pans out.
But I too am worried though, would this mark the end of further simple pixelated Tamagotchis? We all know we have an incredible selection already from the past P1/P2, special editions and now the Connections, but yeah... maybe they've finally taken that new step.
I can't wait to get my hands on one, and the idea about a Tama cradle for recharge would be sweet as! Batteries are expensive, I am struggling to find even cheap ones for my current ones, maybe they'll hit into lithium batteries? Does anyone know the battery life expectancy for the current coloured virtual pets and what they use?
I'm prepared to order one when they come available, I don't think I'll be able to wait for them to hit the Aussie shores. =P
BTW nice discussion topic atashi. ^__^

That would be really cool...have them have a rechargable lithium ion battery...
however
, what would worry me is once the battery will need changing (which eventually it will) how easy it will be to get a replacement. If the color screen never makes it to us it might be near impossible to change it. Because of this, I'm glad the "Music Fever" uses regular batteries you can buy from the store...
And thanks Bo for the compliment. ^__^

You know, they might just upgrade from the batteries all the 2004+ Tamagotchi's use into the same looking one, only a few millimeter wider and thicker(the inscription on the battery is 'CR2450+ 3 VOLTS').
Then again, I do hope they won't since those batteries cost about $17 each here O_O!

Ouch. Batteries I get online nowadays so at the very most I'm paying about a buck a battery (both the 3V's and the 1.5V's for the older virtual pets). Maybe you can get lucky and get them that way?

TL: I don't have the patience for it. Beside, if the shipper is from the US or even Canada it'll take forever and a day to get 'em. >_<
