Hah, I posted this because my Dad just bought a Japanese computer program that he said I could use, and I thought it would be interesting to find out which of us know or are learning Japanese. I must be off now to install the program.

Also please forgive me if I did the poll badly as this is my first poll.

 I went with "still with very much to learn?" because even though I can sometimes pick up on what people are generally saying in Japanese, and know some(well like 20) words and (maybe 5 or so)phrases, and 2 songs(woo!^^) I guess I could sort of make it in Japan like that, y'know? But I could go shopping or something, because even though I'm not Japanese I have a pretty good Japanese accent, heh heh. I know stuff like hello, thank you, and things so I could do that. But it's a language I'd really like to learn to speak. I know one word in Japanese characters(writing), and I suck at writing those characters in general. But I do know Romaji/put into English letters format of a lot of words, some that I don't even know the meaning of. Are you going to learn Japanese, too, Rose? Are you even Japanese at all, or not like me? Oh, and you spelled Japanese wrong in the title, if you want to fix it.

I used to have the hiragana for the characters a, e, i, o, u, sa, shi, se, su, so, ta, chi, tsu, te to, ka, ki, ku, ke, ko, no, & n memorized, but I have since fallen out of practice. D: I haven't found a situation where I have needed katakana so I never used it and kanji makes me want to die. x_x

(ahaha most of that is probably so incredibly wrong it's funny and not funny. o_o;;... when I show off I tend to jump all over the place with the subjects, too)

Heh, oops. I fixed the title. *sheepish grin* As far as I know, I am not Japanese. However, my Dad is from a lot of different places I think, so I'm not sure. I'm a quarter Italian though!

I put "halfway there".  I've basically got all the sentence structure and suchnot....it's mainly a vocabulary thing at this point.

Priestess:Erm, let me see what I can pick up... even though you said you said it's probably wrong. Hello, everyone( I forgot the difference between -san and -chan, but I do know what onee-chan, onee-sama, onii-chan, and -kun are.)! I'm(wait how can you say 'I'm name is'? At least that's what it looks like) I forgot what desu was, but I used to know... arg! And I don't think you repeat watashi every time you speak about yourself(when people speak Japanese they don't say watashi very much even when they would be using that word if they spoke English, if you know what I mean). Ok, umm... something about you liking or talking about a cat? And something else, also? I told you I'm not too good... and something about something cute. ^^'

Chi: Lucky, I have a hard time with sentence structure, since words are in randomly different order than in English.

MistyKetchum - See, I was told you had to explain your subject every time it changed, and it changed about a lot so I was forced to say that a lot. :x
'Desu' is a 'copula', according to wikipedia, but I was told it just completes a sentence nice 'n' grammartastic.

Let's disect my trying (see: failing) to know another language!

-Konnichi wa, minna-san!! = Good day, everyone! (-san shows respect)

-Watashi no namae (Name of I; my name) wa PURIISUTESU desu! (Is Priestess)

-(Aa! 'Puriisutesu desu'tte (I said 'puriisutesu desu')...tesu desu tesu desu desu desu! XD)

 -Neko ga suki (I like cats) demo inu ga suki mo (but I also like dogs).

-nihongo(japanese) ga wakarimasen (understand-not) da yo(this is truth!). x_x (I do not understand Japanese)

-Anata (you) wa sake ga nomimasu(to drink) ka?((watch my grammar die here) It was supposed to be 'are you drinking sake?' but I don't think I'm in the right tense)

-Watashi wa tako (octopus) to (and) sushi ga suki ja nai (do not like... I think. x_x) yo...(I do not like octopus, nor sushi. (I fail.)) Omoshiroi, ne? (Interesting, eh?)

-Oi! (Hey!) Keitai da! (Iunno... could be 'My cellphone!', or 'A cellphone!') Sore(this) wa ao(blue) yo, kawaii, ne? (Hey, a cellphone! IS THIS BLUE NOT LIKE THE CUTEST THING YOU'VE EVER SEEN!?!?!)

So what I tried to understand was pretty much right! ^^ And, yes, -san shows respect, I knew that but forgot to say so, but I get it mixed up with -chan sometimes. It's -chan I do not know the meaning of. Is it reffereing to your friend or using friendliness or something?(Is this off topic?  The poll is about how much Japanese you know. Oh well, this is kinda interesting.)

I only know some names and meanings, and small things like "Thank you" and "Yes" so I've got a far way to go lol.

Oya, I was actually able to read what you wrote, Priestess of Syrinx.  Victory is mine!  

MistyKetchum:  -chan is used when speaking to children or people one is close friends with, but not related to.  I use learning materials that utilize sentence patterns, which is why my knowledge of structure is rather advanced.  I learn the core words and particles used in a certain type of phrase, and then can substitute in many different parts of speech to create a variety of sentences.

EXAMPLE

A wa X no B desu.  (lit--As for A, it's X's B.)

There are lots of ways to fill that in.

Watashi wa Eigo no sensei desu.  (I am an English teacher.)
Kore wa Doitsu no jitensha desu.  (This is a German car.)
Sore wa PURIISUTESU no kasa desu.  (That's Priestess' umbrella.)

And so forth.
