I apologize for the length of this post.

The Tamagotchi Addiction Test has been an important part of Mimitchi.com for a long while. It was one of the very first pages to appear on Mystic Fortress outside of the logs and the Mimitchi Tamagotchi page. The test has existed on my site since before it was "mimitchi.com" - in the 3 previous URL's at 3 other hosts. It was literally more then 10 years ago that I sat down and wrote it out for the first time and posted it online.

Since then it has undergone a few changes to update with the times but mostly the questions have remained in tact. The format of the test however has changed significantly. At first it was released was a list of questions with results. Eventually it changed to a submission form where I posted people's results with their nickname on a page manually. A major change came with a submission system that existed today that my husband wrote.

The flaws in the system made it difficult on me to maintain. Enabling anyone to put in anything in for the "name" got me spammers and a whole load of foul language and cheaters who spammed the 100% portion of the list with random whatevers. This meant hours of editing the database, removing false or bad entries, for several hours every couple of weeks. I was willing to put up with this because so many people enjoyed the test.

However recently someone decided to mess with the script, creating fake results for a much higher then normal achieved score. And he posted about it here to show off. That person has been banned from the boards and from the site. I guess he wanted to be a show off. Foolish.

Well after clearing that up, I looked at the remaining entries and all the garbage that had been posted by people taking advantage of the system and decided.... why am I bothering with this?

So that's it. The test has undergone another huge change. The php is removed, the page is now as single html file. There are no results pages of any sort.

I apologize to those that have enjoyed this site feature over the years - you never deserved to be punished. There's always a bad apple, unfortunately over time that pile of bad apples grew too big. So I have to abandon the old way of doing things. I'll forever be looking for another way to make the test better and work another way. I hope to get some submission thing in place again someday. But not for a while now, until I find something I know won't be exploited.

Sorry to babble. I haven't written a log in forever and I guess it shows..

Here's the new test page;

The Addiction Test is a classic feature and certainly did not deserve the vandalism it got! In no way should you have to moderate something like this, and definitely not to that extent! I think the right thing has been done here - same great test, less jerks to deal with.

Thank you very much Priestess for your support! I hope someday to make it more interactive again. I'm happy to hear you think it's okay for now. Smiley

It's always good to hear from you, thank you. Smiley

I'm sorry to hear about this. I always liked that feature of your site, and it was very unique among all Tama-related sites! You don't deserve to work for hours to clean up the mess other people make on your site, though, so you made the right decision. I'm sorry this happened!

I very much appreciate the sympathy and support Alexa. I really didn't want to take it down but... well someday again it'll be bigger and better I hope.

Thank you for your kind words as always. Smiley

The test surely did not deserve the abuse it went through all the time, but I'm glad that it is staying at all! Kat, you've been wonderful about it the whole time, and I think it's your right to stand your ground firmly and do this, since it's for the better.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who uses it like a checklist for the addiction =D
