So, I've decided. I want to remove the paint from my Tamagotchi. I've used image editting to approximate how it will look after and I like what I've seen.
Now the big feat: removing the paint.

I've heard of many different ways of going about this: nail files, toothpaste, even taking the entire Tamagotchi apart to apply nail polish remover to the shell. I've also heard of people accidentally removing it by rubbing their Tamagotchi while wearing hand lotion.

What works the best? What's safest - for me and for the Tama? How much of a mess does it make? (Tongue)

I've tried nail polish remover and while it did a great job of smudging up the Tamagotchi Connection logo, the bottle also says it's dangerous to use on plastic. =/ Will this kill my Tama, or does it just mean 'removes paint'?

Nail Files?! Do ppl actually use that? o_O

Anyhoo. I've used nail polish remover myself and it turn out pretty good.
However, it kinda soften the plastic shell so you've to be really careful not to apply too much.
And using cotton ain't wise. It get stuck on the shell. That I had to learn the hard way. XD
Paper tissue ftw! or cotton sticks (ironic how the cotton doesn't stuck while regular one does).
It will make quite a mess depending on how much of the decor you want to remove.
I found the color white utterly wicked to polish away. It spreads around and is impossible to "polish" away
once it's dried up. The "TAMAGOTCHI CONNECTION" logo will make the biggest mess, and it's yellow-
twice as evil as the white color.
So taking apart the whole tama is a wise choice. Which I didn't on my first try. >_>
Oh, and don't go near the screen plastic bit thingie. Yet again, I had to learn it the hard way. ><

You've to more or less sponge bath your Tama with nail polish remover, and do it fast. ;P

I see - so am I taking a huge risk in doing this to my Tama? I've tried toothpaste and nailpolish remover already; the former gave it an interesting polish and made my paper towel turn blue, and the latter almost gave me a nervous breakdown while using. xD

I don't particularly want to take apart the Tama - I think that's riskier than using polish remover! You have to take the screws out, take the motherboard and screen out, yank off the keychain... not fun!~ x_X

There isn't some radically different method  I've never heard of, is there?

Also: how much nail polish remover, approx., can I use before it starts, Iunno, killing its guts or something?

You've a point there. Tape over the screen, I guess. =P

Not that I know or heard of, nope.
Just dip your cotton stick in it quickly(yup, all of it). Or drench half of the paper tissue, I guess.

Last year my Tiger striped P2s paint all smudged over the shell because I held onto it for about three hours straight in school while watching some presentation. By the end of the afternoon my hand was black, and black paint was smudged everywhere. I was mad, hehe.

When I got home I washed it down with a damp cloth, and only some of the smudging came off. My mom then gave me this Mr. Clean sponge, which can remove anything from anything. I rubbed it on firmly, and when my egg was yellow with no black paint on it, it didn't even ruin the nice shine on the Tama. Smiley

I can't remember exactly what the name of that sponge is. It's by mr. clean though, and it's all white with a sortive weird feel to it. Does anyone else know what I mean here? Because it worked well for me, and there was no worry about getting the Tama wet or anything like that.

Ginjirotchi, that is a great idea!! I'd have never thought of that, I must pester my mother into the purchase of some o' those.

I definitely know what you're talking about.

...I've also heard that those things are dangerous to human health, but ehhhh who cares.

Not a nail file, but I did use the softest nail buffer possible. It works, but takes part of the shine away, although I've never felt such a smooth tama shell in my life!

I should try that magic eraser then.... hmmm

Do you mean the design of your Tamagotchi? This is how I did my friend's v3:

I just used an eraser! You do need to press quite firmly though. The only difficult bits are around the buttons, which I didn't manage to do with an eraser (I scratched it off with a screwdriver, but you really don't have to if you don't want to).
