Question: In the area you live does it feel like Tamagotchi is quickly losing popularity?
Sadly, it sure feels like it.
Dying down somewhat, but still alive.
Maybe a little, but certainly not much.
Popularity is still crazy where I am!

I'm not sure about you guys, but when I see Tamagotchi in the stores it looks like theres less and less of them and they get pushed into a corner of a isle out of sight. Those that want them must look for them and know what they are looking for. Last I saw them at our TRU they were shoved into a doll isle in a corner - an isle for very young children (lower then Tamagotchi's normal age range).

I'm hoping that FamiTama will jump start the interest. But where I live... I never see anyone with them in public and they don't appear to be gathering much interest or publication in general.

I gotta believe since Bandai keeps releasing them that somewhere there is a huge following still going on (because in the past they stopped production when interest was dead, I must assume it's not dead yet).

So tell me is that fan following and interest still alive in your town?

I get laughed at in the streets when I get seen with Spiff around my wrist. Angry Popularity base was never very high where I am, sadly, but now I feel like I'm the only one.  Sad

They're not dead yet where I am, however the only people I know of that have one are under the age of 12 and are little girls....

But I think with all of the tamagotchi forums online, those are the people buying it all. Somehow I think that that is a lot of people. I'm taking into account the lurkers as well, the guests that never sign up but see our new posts and decide OOOHHHH I want!

My poll reply if there was an "Other" in the poll I would of chosen that.

My other reply would be...

"If it is dying, I'm not aware of it, and even if it officially has, it isn't change the popularity of them amongst myself or other people that I got attached to the things...so it doesn't affect me one way or another. Most tamas for me Mwahahahaha!"

In my hometown, everybody says I'm competing with Kal for the title of 'Most Insane Person'. Actually, that's mainly because of the tamas. I wil drop EVERYTHING to care for a tam, no matter what I happen to be doing. I guess people just think that's weird.  Cry It is kinda sad though, that around here my tamas get laughed at. I want a Gozarutchi to come to life for me. That'd shut them up, and it'd be cool to boot. Cheesy

Perth I think has a mild, good following of Tamagotchi.

When the v.4 was released, Kmart had this big release offer, $16 for one and had a display right in the entrance. The V.5 didn't get as much attention, but all the past versions were often mentioned in sales catalogues.

I remember trying to find, especially around the time of V3/V4, I couldn't find them anywhere as the usual stores had sold out. Even though I didn't get a Tamagotchi when I could afford one, I was filled with pride and it brought a smile to think they were so popular.

As far as people go, I wish I could bump into more who carry around their Tama friends too in public, I've seen a few people though, children. The other day at work I heard the familiar beeping and turned around ever so suddenly with a crazed look on my face, trying to figure out where the beeping came from. =P

Certainly not by far the craze that the public was hit with back in the 90's, but I think there's still a good following, evident mostly by us here online!

You're quite lucky Jen, Canberra has almost zip in the way of followers. Actually, that might be part of the reason I'm having a break.

I see people with Tamagotchis at my school often, but I'm 11 so of course Tamagotchis are going to be more popular around that age group. I also see the occasional 7-year-old with their Tamagotchi; I hope people in an older age range get interested. I've gotten friends to buy Tamagotchis, but that's not much. When V1 came out it was a huge craze like the originals where I was. V2 wasn't all that popular, but the stores made a big deal out of it and sold most of the units. V3 wasn't big at all, and V4 was for the first few months, and stores sold out completely very fast. V4.5 wasn't big at all, either.

So, overall, I went with "Dying down somewhat, but still alive"

Edit- If you go on a site like Amazon,TRS.com,etc to buy Tamagotchis, it now usually says 'Our recommended age: 4-8 years' or something similar. Angry

Very few people I know have Tamagotchi. But then again most of the time I stay at home and now that electronics are banned at school (ugh) nobody's allowed to bring theirs any more.

A lot of people say stuff like, "Tamagotchi are, like, sooooooo not in." Who cares? I'm the last person to care about popularity, really.

This may sound weird and stuff but, the popularity here in Indonesia just started! o_o
since they just start selling V4 last year... I'm hoping I could see some Famitama or V4.5 soon Smiley
