Anticipating American Famitama designs...

Looking closer at the Famitama news thread, I don't really like the one US design, and I hope they come out with better ones. Seriously...paint spill/blotches? If you're going to pull that card, go all out and make a gorgeous Jackson Pollock-esque shell, Bandai. I really wish they'd pay more regard to their aesthetic, it could do wonders for their sales, and for us, as consumers. Going to a private art school has taught me a lot about how looks can work in business.
In all honesty, the American tams always look a lot worse than the Japanese tams....it seems like the design team at Ban Dai uses too many clashy colors and shapes to make them more childish and tinker-toy like rather than retain the cute charm of the Japanese tams. The 4.5s have shown some improvement(the waves and chocolate argyle being my favorites), but for the American tams, I always end up picking the simpler designs, like a solid color or a clear shell, because the more complex the design gets, the stupider it looks imho.
I also, at first, thought that the keychain had been abandoned, and that there was just a house...but no! That dreadful thing is still here. Argghhh.
I'm awaiting more US designs a bit worriedly...what are your feelings?

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I would MUCH prefer solid colors, but in cool combinations like the original P1/P2 tamagotchis..But it seems like Bandai is trying too hard to cater to like a "tween" audience or something but they don't realize that in doing so, they're making super fugly designs..UGH! lol
They did have a bit better designs/color schemes with the V4.5 release, although personally the falling leaves one is really ugly and has horrible diarrhea green colors..sorrry if that was too much information BUT YOU CAN'T DENY IT!!
Oh, and the whole antenna thing is sooo tired. First of all, the antenna means NOTHING because you can't even connect it to the phone..and I know they probably have it so that it can be distinguished from other versions, but that's why they have a big fat VERSION 5 on the front of the package! Just DITCH THE ANTENNA! AND if you want the antenna, don't put a stupid looking monopoly-esque tacky house on the end of it! UGHHHH.
Okay my angry rant is over.....lol I am pretty excited about the release, I just want bandai to stop making ugly colored shells. :|
EDIT: Oh yeah, and as many others have stated, the keychains are so obnoxious. They scratch up the screen/shell and I don't even use the keychain. I would like to just remove it, but for some reason I feel like I need something on that side otherwise it feels weird when I'm holding it......hah I'm really weird.

I'm in total agreement. It would be nice to have some more matching toned down colors that are better on my eyes. Things that are less for the kids and more for elegance and artistic value would really get my attention. The colors that have been released in recent months that I've seen in stores are just so.. blah! I'd love some solid colors, especially some blues

I couldn't agree more - I'm getting a little sick of all the splashy colors that are meant to grab pre-teen girls' attention. They're really just making the Tamagotchi...ugly. o_o;
They should look more to the Japanese designs, especially the Plus and Keitai colors, as well as back to the V4.5 colors. One of the best colors had to be the Hawaiian flower design. The best "pattern" V4.5 was, I think, the Globe one. ^^
I'm not sure what's with the keychain though. Why does Bandai keep using that same hoop thing, even though they KNOW nobody really likes it?
They could use a Keitai tag instead, or Entama beads. Or, if they're crafty, the Akai hook.
Or why not just give us the old chain back instead? The Europeans have the chain, why shouldn't the American ones?
EDIT - I just sent Bandai an email on the matter. We'll see what happens.

OM21 - I have e-mailed Bandai several times on different matters about Tamagotchi, including the one you have. I think that they need to think outside the box a little and try and make the newest Tamas appeal to people of all ages and genders.
Kat - The recent colors have been rather blah haven't they? I to would like to see more blues as well.. Maybe even a clear blue one!
The same thing happened in the 90s with the colors of P2. Towards the end, when the last selection of colors came out before they were discontinued, the colors wern't all that nice looking.. I guess this is some sort of pattern.. They just run out of colors after a while. ::shrug::

I have to say that some of the newer desgins are pretty, but they are just too
much
. I have seen pictures of older tamas and I own a couple japenese ones. And I have to say, Bandai is making a big mistake.

I agree with you there, but don't you think that the later waves of v4 designs in Australia were getting more pink and flowery?
My
Australian
v4 is an Entama design. It's pale blue with light blue, white and dark blue diamonds. I like the design but dislike the programming.
I would love Tamagotchi to be less bright and colourful and more subtle (is that the right word?). Sometimes I see bright and colourful designs on the Internet and wonder how people can actually have that design and not be distracted by the bright colours while playing the irritating games.

I think "subtle" is a perfect word for it. I'm longing for the old normal two color basic designs again, like they had for the P1s. I don't like these new overwhelming designs. I don't mind the new houses for the V5s, even though I will miss the keys. Oh well. I want a plain white tama with a red interior and red star... thats IT.
