I was inspired to start this topic by something Spartan said, which went as such:

I've noticed something odd - on the back of the Famitama shell, on the section that's shaped like a padlock where the metal U embeds, there's what looks like a tiny keyhole with a plastic cover - perhaps one Famitama can unlock another?!

I detached the key from my own Famitama and it doesn't fit - perhaps each Famitama will have a different-sized key?

I think you're right though, it is decorative and not functional... but it would be cool if another product is made to fit the key - I'm thinking maybe a safe-deposit box that you can open with your Famitama key?

Or a vending machine/dispenser - after all in Tokyo there are Tamagotchi vending machines in the street already

So I thought, "Hey, why not make a topic where we can try and figure out what this and other things we will probably soon discover as we get our own FamiTamas on a thread?" So here it is.

I didn't think that my response to Spartan's predictions and hopes would be right to put on the introductory post, so I hope I'm not drastically going against TSS's style of no double posts, since this should be a relevant one.

On account of the keys, I think that they are all different sizes or shapes, cos you can even see a small variation in their sizes on this picture of the three grouped together.

So, maybe they do fit into the hole in the back. Did you see any screws holding the battery part to the shell? If not, maybe the keyhole is the way to get it open to replace the batteries.

One hope that I have for the FamiTama, is that they get some very cool designs. I think Bandai does a good job at them already but, there is always room for improvment!

I'm with Sukii on one thing, I hope they continue to make different designs for the FamiTama. The current designs are cool but I would like to see some more. Right now, the only 'hope' of mine I can think of is that I will enjoy the FamiTama, if I think of anything else I'll be sure to post it.  Grin

Also, I never considered the key to be anything except decoration, but one theory I've heard several times is that it has something to do with the up-coming tama movie. Why they think this or what connection they see I don't know but I've seen that theory several times.

Maybe it's only for decoration now, but they can add vending macines or dispensers where you can put the key in and turn it, and a little egg will come out, like the quarter machines I mentioned...
