I came up with this idea:

We could take one Christmas/Holidays themed song/carol, like "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" or "Jingle Bells" which is well known almost all around the world and have been translated in many languages.

We could sing the song in our native languages and record it and TigerLily or some other person who has experience about music mixation could mix the recordings together and we'll get universal Holidays song mix sung by members of this board.

If you people are not afraid to use your voices and want to sing a little bit, we could collect the song performed at least in english, spanish, deutch, indonesian, swedish, finnish, french, icelandian(?) and some other languages. Maybe we end up hearing some rare versions like North-American native ppl language versions

Don't worry if you think that you can't use PC microphone or recording software well. I try to help ppl with their recording software/hardware problems in this topic and I know other ppl want to give advices and help too.

So now I ask, are you ppl interested?

Name couple of Christmas/Holidays songs you know are widely popular and are translated to your native language (other than english), and we'll see what song we are going to choose as the "One".

The two ones I mentioned earlier, "Jingle Bells" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" are translated into my language (Finnish) and also well known "Winter Wonderland" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" have finnish translated lyrics.

Am I the only person on this board who doesn't celebrate Christmas?

Those songs drive me nuts because I get slammed with them all the time basically whenever I leave the house or turn on the TV.

This is a nice idea, it just happens to hit on one of my pet peeves.

I hope it's a success, but I'm sorry, there's no way I can participate in this one.

It's still a very cute idea. If it were up to me, I would open it up to let anyone sing any song to represent a festival going on in their own culture. That way it's not just for Christians. It would also be a great way to celebrate diversity on TSS!

But, if there really isn't that much diversity on TSS and everyone just wants to sing Christmas songs, then... that's the status quo I guess!

I'm going to go sit in my Minority Corner now! Grin Heh heh, just kidding. I really like this idea, which is probably why I'm so grumpy that it's not compatible with my culture.

That's great idea too, Elana. To create track with holiday songs from different cultures sung in different languages, but I thought it would be fun to heard same song sung in different languages.

The problem is that there's many ppl in this board who can't sing hanukka songs or kwanzaa songs or what other celebrations there is in different countries around end of December and New Year. Many of the Christmas songs are translated into several languages and are known widely around the World and in project like this it's easier to pick up one of those songs.

I am not trying to be offensive towards anyone, and I know this Christmas VS other December celebrations is pretty difficult topic.

I think, possibly this project isn't going to "get wind under it's wings" as ppl usually don't like the idea of their singing voice to be heard widely example in internet Tongue

Hey, great idea!

I won't comment about the celebrating of holidays in other cultures, either way I might be taking another's side unintentionally which isn't ideal. You both have good points.

I'm going to lay back and just say, it's an awesome idea. I remember your voice recording last year Kokuma, brought a great smile.  Grin

I'm not much of a singer, but I do play the guitar, maybe I can sing whilst playing which would take the heat off of my lack of singing skills. ^.^ I'd be up for it, my computer can't record at the moment or play audio, but my IT fanatic friend said he would take a look for me when he visits.

As for song choices, if Jingle Bells is chosen, I could sing the Australian version!

Earlier today I talked with Spiffy through Messenger and we talk about deutch song "O Tannenbaum" (Oh Christmastree) and realized that we both can sing it in 2 languages; spanish & deutch and english & finnish.

I thought to pick that song as the project song as it seems to have been translated in many languages and the melody is familiar to most ppl.

I thought we could use THIS MIDi file as background help to keep us in rhytm when we sing Smiley
(This is link to the page where I found the MIDi file in case you want to look for it by yourself. It's listed as "Oh Christmas Tree 3")

I have found the lyrics in english, deutch, finnish, swedish and propably in russian this far. Jiro is looking for them in japanese and Spiffy found the spanish translated version.

Now I'm asking who wants to join the Song Project?

I know there is ppl here who can speak french, russian, swedish, italian and other languages. You can help by looking for the lyrics of O Tannenbaum/Oh Christmastree in these languages from the italian/russian/swedish/french/etc. webpages cause it seems really hard or even impossible to found the (possible) translations from english webpages (if there is any).

We can do the project with just I, Spiffy and Jiro in 4-5 languages but in that case the final music mix will be quite short, just couple of minutes and only 3 singers and we would like to see other ppl join this project.

Anyone interested?

If questions pop up, feel free to ask them in this topic.

Hopefully this Saturday or Sunday I will see my friend and we will trill a couple of Spanish songs. Smiley

So far I have sung "Campana sobre campana" and another song called "La Marimorena".

There is also the song of "O'Tannenbaum".

Good, good.

Now we have singer for spanish, deutch, finnish, english and swedish versions (if swedish translated lyrics can be found somewhere)

Hopefully we find japanese lyrics from somewhere (Jiro's dad mentioned there is translation of Oh Christmastree in japanese but he didn't know where to get the lyrics) and french version, too.
I already asked one french-speaking board member to sing the french version Wink

This time the New Year is going to be like never before...hehe Grin
