Happy Remembrance Day all!   Lets have 2 mins of silence for theese brave soldiers who gave their lives to make this a free country.
In honour of theese soldiers, I will post in red all day. in your prayers, Id like you to remember my friend Rachels grampa. he finished the war and just as he was going off the field, he stepped on a landmine.   I will find a link so that you can see how many were killed and how many sereved our country.

For those of you who may not know what she's talking about:

November 11 is a day of memorial dedicated to the soldiers gave their lives in wars of the past, especially World War I. It is called Remembrance Day in Australia, Canada, the UK, Papua New Guinea and Bermuda; Poppy Day in Malta and South Africa; Armistice Day in France and New Zealand; and Veterans Day in the USA.

In Ontario tradition, we take a minute of silence at eleven o'clock on November 11, usually following a short service with spoken word or music.

We had a very special Remembrance Day on the retreat today. My friend Rachel, who is a semiprofessional musician, had her trumpet with her, and played "The Last Post" and "Reveille". We also sang an a cappella version of a song called "Halicha LeKeisarya" (arranged by Rachel), which was written by a Jewish Hungarian-Palestinian paratrooper who fought for the British in World War II. She wrote it in a Nazi POW camp the night before her execution.

Rachel's trumpet sounded amazing in the big open space of the campgrounds. We could hear the echo coming over the distant hills across the lakes all around us. During our minute of silence, it started to rain just a little, and the wind in the trees really made it seem like the Earth was crying with us for the lost soldiers.

I kept thinking about my grandfather, who was a veteran in World War II in the Canadian military. I also kept thinking about the battles of Marathon and Thermopylae where many Greek soldiers gave their lives for freedom, democracy and Western culture.

I would personally never say "happy Remembrance Day", because it's not a happy occasion. It's very somber and solemn.

Good thing I stopped here out of curiousity. I was about to go the day doing nothing to honor these soldiers all because I was unaware. I thought it was tomorrow! If you excuse me for a moment, I'm going to give them a moment of silence for about 2-3 minutes. (Better late than never.)
