Today I spent the afternoon in the city by myself, I like going there alone just wandering about, having lunch and sipping a nice coffee in the big courtyards that Perth offers. I was completely oblivious to everything around me, when a man came and sat beside me. He then started talking about The Wilderness Society. TWS is a national group that helps with the conservation of Australia's wildlife and landscape.

We get those people a lot around campus, and due to past money constraints, I could never take the risk of joining one in case I could not keep to the donations. But, today was something different, I realised $20 a month is nothing, and that by a small donation can make a big difference.

I signed up, and am looking forward to going to meetings and getting involved in this society. I know next to nothing of the major issues apart from those on local news and by word, I am looking forward to learning.

Have any of you donated or joined a cause? I'm sure there a lot of societies like this one around the world, all fighting for the same reason. I would love to hear of them, and what they get up to.

This is a great thread idea, Jen!

I read in your post on my log that you were searching to see if this thread idea had already been posted somewhere. Well I think the key word was "charity" because I turned up this old thread from June. Wink This one is slightly different because it's about joining societies and whatnot, and that old one was about community projects. But my answer is pretty much the same; I donate monthly to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. I wrote a long post about it and other organizations that I support, back in the old thread. Grin
