Perhaps I am looking in the wrong community, but I expected Chao to be a popular topic here. Oh well.

For those who don't know, Chao Garden is a side game in 'Sonic Adventure' and 'Sonic Adventure 2' for the Sega Dreamcast, and 'Sonic Adventure DX' and 'Sonic Adventure 2: Battle' for the Nintendo GameCube. In each game you have three 'Gardens' where you can keep a maximum of 8 artificial lifeforms called Chao per Garden. Based on how you raise your Chao, there's more than 50 possible outcomes!
Each garden starts with two normal eggs, but you can also buy different coloured eggs from the in-game market to hatch into coloured Chao.
Once they reach a certain age, they can mate with each other. Mating certain colours together will result in some very interesting patterns, including an Invisible Chao!

A website with lots of pictures of different Chao is
http://www.yamipoli.com/chaobeach/

Information on raising Chao (mostly for Sonic Adventure 2) can be found at
http://www.chaotropolis.sstrike.net/

I am currently raising two Chao on Sonic Adventure DX (my favourite version). One is a normal Chao named Garrett and the other is a Pink Chao named Stacey. I am raising them to hopefully breed a Pink & Normal Two-Tone Chao.

Oh no.. I can't look at this! I'll get sucked into Chao raising again!.

I always loved to have them grow up as neutral Chaos, cos then they turned completely into different colors! I loved my little swimmer the most. I went through phases from loving the devils to the angels to the neutral ones, where I stuck to it.

My little brother loved one that he had with an eggshell head. Its name was Bow (yes with a heart next to its name, or was it a star?). His stats were always better than mine, but I concentrated on turning them into all the different types, so that I would have a flying, swimming, power, running, and normal type in each garden (normal, angel and devil).

My favorite thing was sending them to school though, especially for drawing and playing instruments. Then they would leave me little pictures on the floor and have little concerts with eachother, each playing their own instrument or singing. So cute!

Of course I've heard of it. I've Sonic Adv. DX and Sonic Adv. Battle myself.
It's just that I've never had the patiance to raise Chao's, which is funny, 'cause I've all the time in the world to raise Tama's, however. Though Tamagotchi's are not consoles and can be brought with everywhere.
The most annoying part is to turn on and off the GC. Plus you've to spend countless of hours behind the television. x_x
Otherwise it's a lovely mini/side/sub game!
