This evening the chatroom was on the fritz, so I wrangled a rudimentary backup chatroom on a blog that I have kicking around for this sort of thing. Smiley Feel free to use it if the chatroom is kicking people at random like it was tonight, or if there are any other technical difficulties with it.

The backup chatroom requires no downloads or registration, just Flash which is probably already in your browser.

It just kept randomly booting everybody, including the mods, off. So we were having trouble talking to eachother and even getting more than just a couple of sentences into our conversations.

Did chatroom give those "connection reset by peer" messages in the lines that announced the quit/leave of the user?

Then it's not to blame the chatroom, but the IRC server.

Regardless of whether it was the Java or the server, the chatroom wasn't working so I set up an alternative system on an alternative server.

It was almost definitely the server though, I just didn't feel that it was relevant to make the distinction in my first post. If there are problems with the Java, my chatroom is a good alternative in that case as well. It really makes no difference.

Aye, it should not be the chatroom itself giving the problem. If you are getting a specific java error, please let me know. But it should be IRC that is the problem.

IRC is notorious for connection issues, lag and constant disconnections related to server problems - nothing to do with the chat client itself (you can use any number of chat clients to connect to that chatroom, including as something simple as telnet).

Sometimes these problems last for minutes and there have been times where it could last for an hour or so -- just depends on how fast they fix things. It's just the nature of IRC.
